I was browsing a crafting site and wondered if there are addons or 3rd party furnishing recipes available anywhere. I ran across names like Frostfell and GU37. Are these in-game recipes or third-party?

There's no third party anything in EQ2 except for UI modifications.

Frostfell is EQ2's Christmas/Winter Solstice/Whathaveyou holiday. EQ2 thus far does special events for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day (Erollisi's Day in game) and St. Patrick's Day (um, Brell's Day). The quests and events are largely fluff (really FUN fluff, IMO), and usually have some nice in-game house item. In our database we note when house items and recipes came from those events because they're usually one-time or event-related. For example, last Frostfell we got a ton of recipes for holiday stuff that were craftable only in the Frostfell zone, and only with recipes and raws obtained in the Frostfell zone.

GU 37 refers to Game Update 37. Game Updates (formerly called Live Updates) are semi-scheduled dates when changes, fixes, tweaks, and additions come into the game. They generally happen around the end of each month.

With GU 37 Carpenters are getting more love from the new Tradeskill Developer, Domino. We were expecting it this week, but it looks like it got held up (not a bad thing, it means QA caught something).

PS - Holiday events and Game Updates are free content. To see all the Updates ever, try clicking here.

Thanks for the fantastic info. I'll look forward to the holiday crafting. But I still wonder if there are recipes that can be added by third party downloads, like prortraits can.

No. And Portraits cannot be added to the game, not sure where you got that. Except for UI mods, there are no 3rd party add-ons to the game. As a matter of fact, things like botters (3rd party programs that play the game for you) will get you perma-banned.
