Patching Issue...first time playingFollow

#1 Jul 18 2007 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent
I just bought this game yesterday and installed the game without incident. I loaded it up and the patching process began. When it seemed like the patching was complete though, I got a "Download Cancelled" message under the progress bars. I contacted customer support, but they were no help. They told me to contact my internet service provider. Anyone know what could be causing this? I tried turning off firewalls, virus protection, everything...but still the issue persists. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Your ISP might have had a hiccup. Sometimes I have seen while downloading the patches that the download will hang. I usually just cancel out and get back into the game and it will sort of remember what files were downloaded previously and go faster.

You can also try bypassing the router and see if it goes any better. If this is the case then your router might need some ports opened up.

When you get to playing if you need help you can start a toon on Oasis and I can help you with questions and comparisons to WoW since I see you are coming from it. ;)

GL with the download and have fun with EQ2.

Hey, thanks for the advice.

I tried everything short of hard wiring (since I am in the basement and the router is on the top floor) and it still doesn't work. My first thought was that it was a hiccup but it just kept happening. It is strange indeed.

Hmmm you could also try one of the mirroring sites that are out there like IGN where you can download patches for most games. Usually you have to pay a subscription fee but it extremely cuts down on the downloads times of some patches for some games. ;)

Have you tried posting your problem on the official SOE forums?

Also, you may want to go in your user folder under Documents and Settings and delete all your temp files (internet and other).

Not too long ago I couldn't get my internet to connect and I was certian it was a problem with the ISP itself, since my work's connection, which has the same ISP, was as sluggish as 56k on a bad day. I called the ISP and they said there wasn't anything wrong with thier service in my area. Clearing the catche through internet explorer didn't work. As a last resort before wiping my computer and rebooting eveything I started manually deleting temp internet and application files. It turns out that did the trick. I know its not the same problem but it may be worth a try.

Disclaimer: I'm not an IT pro, be careful what you delete.

I had the same problem, and fixed it by renaming the EQ2 .exe program file. I just went into the EQ2 folder and changed the name to EQ2.exe so the full name came out to be EQ2.exe.exe, then started the patcher directly from there. HOpe that helps!

I, tried what Atrum said when i had the same problem, in fact he was the one that told me to do that, and it worked like a charm.

I wish I would have checked this when I got home from work...instead I spent about 45 minutes looking on the SOE technical help questions and found the below response. It looks like it is going to work. Before, I could only get about 2 min into the patching process and it would cancel. After performing step 2, it's been going strong for 15 minutes. I think this is going to work. I am including the steps below for anyone using Vista that has the same problem in the future.

Question

Why do I keep getting a download cancelled error in Windows Vista?
Answer

There are several security settings that come installed with Windows Vista that we will need to modify to allow your game to run without interference. Please make sure you do all of the following steps.

Section One: Running as Administrator

1. Right click on the game's icon and go to properties
2. Go to the compatibility tab
3. Click on "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select XP Service Pack 2
4. Check "Run this program as administrator"

Section Two: Working Around the User Access Control (UAC)

1. Make sure you are logged in on an Administrator account.
2. Navigate to the game's folder (Usually c:\program files\sony\ will contain the game's folder)
3. Right click on the game's folder and go to properties
4. Click on the Security Tab
5. Click on the Edit button.
6. Go through each username or group listed and make sure all "Allow" boxes are checked
7. Ensure that no "Deny" boxes are checked and click OK.

After these steps, if you are still getting a Download Cancelled error in your game's Launchpad on Windows Vista, please refer to the article Contacting Tech Support for further assistance.
