new 'antispam /tell' measures...Follow

#1 Jul 18 2007 at 7:13 AM Rating: Decent
for those not sure of what I'm talking about...
now when you get those annoying plat seller /tells, it comes across as just the name of the person and an option to [View] (basically a link, like when we link items in chats) ... even further, there is an option to block spam tells completely.

so, what do you think? personally, the standard level, forcing you to click in order to view is good for me. The plat sellers use obvious dummy names (qwertybnm) for example so you know it's just some made up thing, unlikely to be a serious player...

I think so far so good. I agree, that the default with just the name and [view] is enough control that I'm not bothered by it. And if I recognize the name, then I can choose to view it.

What would be nice is, if you get a tell from someone you know and it is blocked, to be able to add them to an exception list or something.

So far, though, I haven't had any /tells except plat sellers get blocked. So, good job SOE.

We're seeing a problem with people deliberately kicking the filter, especially in channels, forcing it to spam people.

Some people are easily entertained.

Hope this stops the never ending whinging of "SOE wants RMT sellers thats why they won't do anything". Any company selling a product and making a profit must be evil by nature - right?

I love the default filter so far. My only issue is that it still will bring up the spammer's name if you hit the 'r' key.

I think the blocker is fantastic. Next mabee Sony can set is so the sender of the blocked messages get auto-replys from everyone that doesn't accept the tell. The auto-reply would alert friends and keep true spammers screen scrolling with spam.

It's half-assed "solution" based off of a poor, easy to circumvent filtering scheme. They need to come up with something better. This is like putting a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound; they're trying to do something to stop the bleeding, but it just isn't going to cut it.

Frankly that this is what they came up with after all this time and all this grief...well it's just damn disappointing.

Seems like Sut may be right. I got three spam IMs last night that weren’t filtered and some spam mail in my mailbox. Boo for weak spam protection!

I agree with Stu. This idea would have been great when the spamming first started happening, just a way to ease the annoyance while they come up with the big fix.

But if this is all they've come up with during all this time... seems a little weak

Correction. Very WEAK.
