Ok, so the EQII I am buying will be the expansion, and I heard that it is easier to make money off of the quests in the enw areas. SHould I start right off with a Fae, since it will be my forst characters, or should I go with one of th eolder races and view the other areas first. Thanks!

The new areas are easier for quest rewards, and stuff (i personally dont make much money off quests)
If you want to start in the new area you dont have to be a fae either, you can choose any of the races.
The old starting areas have much better crafting material dispersion.

Once you can get through Butcherblock Mountains at around level 20, you can take a boat to the older areas. In fact, it is the only way to get to the KoS areas.

Your standard account will have 7 charcter slots. Create a couple of characters & see which you prefer. Personally, I like fae, especially the gliding ability. My fae zerker has taken over as my main character.

Don't worry too much about making cash since it's not all that important as you begin the game. You outgrow armor, equipment, and skills/spells pretty quickly, so spending alot of cash on those off the bat is not always the best idea.

I didn't start my character in EoF, so I am not a pro on which quests give the most money, but I have seen various complaints that alot of the noob EoF zones are pretty barren.

I think you should base you choice of which character to play on which one appeals to you most, either by looks or by racial abilities. For example, from what I gathered so far, Fae have permanent float on, so they don't have to worry about falling damage (hopefully someone can back this up for me). In the "guides" section of Allakhazam's about 3/4 of the way down the page there is a description of base stats and a history of each race (http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html). Also there is a link on the left side of the webpage for the racial abilities (http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/traditionlist.html?1); ever so often as you level up you get to choose one of the abilities for your race.

Probably the best way to make some cash is to sell stuff on the broker market, which is very easy to do. The items that generally sell the fastest are:
Adept spell/skill scrolls (i.e. the scrolls that upgrade your spells and skills dropped by enemies in chests),
Collectible items (those shiny things that randomly spawn on the ground with a ? over them; be sure to only sell the ones you have extras of, examine them 1st), and
Rare harvested items (read up on harvesting these 1st, some of them you may want to use for yourself for armor and nice spell/skill upgrades).

Basically if you see a shiny on the ground or a harvesting node on the ground, click on it until it is gone. All you need to sell is a bag or two and the broker NPC. Brokers are found in every major city zone; if you can't find one, just ask someone where to find them. Price your items according to the existing market prices, but don't forget that the broker adds a 20% fee; so if you charge 10 silver for an item, it will show up on the market for 12 silver (10 silver for you and 2 silver for the broker). If you find that you want more slots to place your sale items, you can rent a room at the inn and buy some salesman crates. You may need to remove the existing bags from the broker before you can place the salesman crates in your room.

You can change your home city if you really want to, but it take a bit of time and effort. Look up the citizen and betrayal quests (betrayal if you want to switch from good to evil or visa versa).

Other then that, just enjoy the game.
