fun zones for mid-levelFollow

#1 Jun 15 2007 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent
Hi all, I just started with EQII. I used to play the original several years ago, as a dark elf enchanter on the Tunare server (Hyperius Thaylees, if there are any of my old crowd still around, lol). So now I started a Fay enchanter, and I'm wondering if my choice of race is a mistake. It seems there is hardly anyone ever around in the Faydark area or Butcherblock or Crush Keep, so I've been soloing... which is amazingly easy in this game compared to the old. Now I am level 28 but have yet to get into a group. I have no idea where to go to find lots of people and pickup groups. Any suggestions?

I'm still new myself to EQ2, but I have noticed on Crushbone that there seem to be more folk playing in Nek and TS that GFay.

I can't believe you've gotten to lvl 28 and never grouped. What server are you playing on and are you in a guild? But to answer your question, I find that EoF zones are quieter than the Qeynos/Freeport zones. And with the release of the Neriak content, people are probably less inclined to head to the Fay. At lvl 28 you should be able to pick up plenty of PUGs for RoV (Ruins of Varsoon) in the Thundering Steppes. That should take you through to the mid 30s and then it's off to RE (Runnyeye).

Cool, thanks for the advice, I will give those places a try. I am now Cyperius Thaylees on the Nektulos server, and have been doing all the quests in butcherblock. It's been fun and good experience but I'm missing the groups. I used to love the cazic-thule temple and lower guk, karnor's castle and sebilis back in eq1, hopefully some of these places will be like that.

Never played EQ1, but Cazic Thule is a good dungeon, lvl 45+. I'm also a fan of Permafrost, which is in Everfrost and about the same lvl range as CT. Hate Klak'Anon in EoF so never go there.

Because Faydwer is so far away from the "main" part of the world a lot of people do not go there - not that the boat ride actually takes that long.
Add to that the new things relating to Neriak and the Arasai and Faydwer is now very, very quiet.... like it's hunting wabbits!

The best advice is to take the boat out of Butcherblock Docks (or ask a friendly wizard to transport you) and move to the mainland.
Every day on my server I see dozens of groups forming in the level 20 and 30 chat rooms, especially for the likes of the Ruins of Varsoon in Thundering Steppes. And if you don't use these chat rooms I would recommend them - yes they have lots of useless chatter in them at times, but they are a great way to find groups and meet other people your level.

Grouping is not the same as in EQ1 where you used to goto the zone you wanted to grind and shout for a group that was already camping a specific area.

In EQ2, use the level specific channel (i.e. the 20-29 channel, which should be /2) and give your class and level. If the level specific chat channels aren't visible, you will have to play around with your chat options. Also, you can turn on the LFG tag. ooc and shout are rarely used in eq2.

Groups in EQ2 are more of a dungeon crawl, rather than camping for named enemies (unless maybe if the group is specifically looking for a named for a quest). Don't worry too much if you get a group and have no clue where you need to go; just ask after you are invited for the best way to get there. If the map is blacked out for the dungeon you need to get to just use alt+enter to minimize EQ2 and lookup a map on the web.

It would also be wise if you did a little exploring in nektulos, thundering stepps, commonlands, and antonica. Do the griffon tower quests in nek and thundering steppes for easier travel. The exploring will give you some nice discovery xp/AA too.

Ah, that last post actually explains a lot to me. I've been set in the mindset of the old EQ, running around looking in zones trying to figure out where people are camping so I can pick up groups, lol. Also, I only just a day or so ago figured out how to use the world channels... I could see people talking but had no idea how to reply, I was using ooc and obviously not getting any responses.

I have to give kudos to the developers, there are many, many improvements that I just love.... the new quest system is awesome, the way it keeps track and tells you what step is next, and actually gives out decent rewards. Tons better than the old system. Also the thing with reviving in a safe point in the same zone after you die, and keeping your body.... no more hours and hours of corpse runs and waiting for resurrections, wow. The boats are much improved, and I just love the bells. Travelling is fun, I can't believe how much experience you can get just by exploring new zones... I went completely through level 29 just exploring thundering steppes and the commonlands and nektulos, only killing the occasional pesky critter.

Kunark was actually my favorite area, I loved that land... I can't wait till they release the new version of it!

Thanks for all the input, it has explained a lot about the new game.... I'm thinking I may just retire this character and begin again, with what I know now and starting in qeynos or freeport. I never did like faydark, even in the old days, I don't know what possessed me to start this game there.

Good hunting, everyone!
