A new player with some questionsFollow

Hello all you EQ2'ers out there. Long time Alla member, but just coming over to the EQ2 side of things. I'm a FFXI and WoW veteran, but am moving on to (hopefully) greener pastures.

I recently spent a weekend with some friends of mine who play EQ2 and got into alot of discussions about it. Really sparked my interest, but left me with a few questions that I have for the community here.

1)Are the characters able to jump/swim? Just how 'explorable' is the world? That is, the scenery looks beautiful, but to what extent can you interact with it?

2)How hard is it to find a good guild? To be clear, 'good' does not imply 'will give me money, will power level' and the like, but rather 'will encourage questions and help nurture a new player'? (I understand this is something that may differe realm to realm (or server to server...whatever they're called round these parts)

3)1 game + 1 monthly fee = how many characters to be created?

4)A link to some more indepth PvP information.

Thank you much, and I look forward to joining the community!

Yep, we can jump/swim. About the only thing we can't do is fly/levitate. There's *lots* of exploring you can do just for the awesome scenery.

I haven't looked for a guild, but I hear it's not difficult. The community is very friendly, for the most part. Just ask questions before you join.

There are two kinds of subscriptions:

EQ2 Only
= 7 character slots.
Station Access (allows you to subscribe to all Station games for a higher price) = um, I think it's twelve toons now. Unless you're an alt-a-holic 7 is usually plenty.

For PvP, try the PvP forum on the Official Forums. Definitely not my forte, lol.

Yes, characters can both jump and swim and some can even glide or float for a limited distance (depends on your race). The world is very explorable. With a few exceptions, if you can see it you can travel to it. Interaction is another story. While there is some amount of interaction, it's not that deep (ie: permanent flora loss, destructible environments, etc.).

2)How hard is it to find a good guild? To be clear, 'good' does not imply 'will give me money, will power level' and the like, but rather 'will encourage questions and help nurture a new player'? You are correct in that the answer will vary from server to server. I can only speak for my server (Antonia Bayle) in that there are guilds for every style, from a devout roleplayer to a hardcore raider and every style of casual and family guild in between. Not to knock it as I'm sure it's a fun game as well, but while we and every game has their...annoyance players, you'll find that the EQ2 player population is an older, more adult player base in general. You'll be able to find something to suit your taste no matter which server you pick and guilds are almost always actively recruiting.

3)1 game + 1 monthly fee = how many characters to be created?

The basic subscription comes with 6 character slots. This may have recently been increased...or will be shortly...or something. But at least 6 to be sure.

4)A link to some more indepth PvP information.

Hrm. I'm not sure if there is an in-depth guide for the totality of the EQ2 PVP experience out there. Your best bet is to put on a flame-retardant suit and head over to the SOE official PVP discussion forum.

Thank you much, and I look forward to joining the community!

Welcome to EQ2. Feel free to jump in and let us know if you have any other questions. ;)

Thanks for the clarifcation, Cal. I knew it was changed or at least about to. I'm not a huge alt-o-holic so I didn't pay that much attention. ;)
