You die a lot.
You aren't on the top of anyones list to get in a group.
You can charm powerful mobs, but they turn on you a lot and you die even more.
That about sums my experience with the class before I got sick of it.

In my opinion a bard would be a better choice if you want a mana battery class, they get more group wide buffs.

Coercer's can be, more than probably any other class in EQ2, described as a "high risk" class. Sefana is right. You will die a lot while learning the class. Even after you've mastered it, you will die a damn sight more often than most other people. It's a difficult class to play and it's even more difficult to play it effectively. However if you do stick with it and you are one of those players that can realize the full potential of the class you can pull off some amazing stuff. A good coercer is one of the most efficient solo'ers in the game and arguably the best friend any group can have. The trick though, is getting good. It's a rough road and most aspiring coercers end up abandoning the class for a less difficult profession.

I have a 30 coercer, by no means a high enough level to really get the complete feel of it. But having one in my group as a main at level 70, makes the difference of running an instance in 15minutes and running one in an hour. The can up DPS, power regen, and lots of other fun things. Good on raids, and IMO a highly needed class.

However, it is difficult to play. Without a good tank and healer, you will die alot.

Like I said in the other thread, you WILL die a lot. It's a great class to play and I do so love my own Coercer but it is one of the more difficult classes.

If you want to give it a shot, go for it. I just wanted to stress in the other thread that the Coercer is NOT like the Hunter. You do not charm a pet and then it becomes obedient and will follow you until you don't want it anymore. The charm CAN and WILL break randomly.

If you like the risk and want to play a class that can really shine with some dedication, try it. A talented Coercer is hard to find. But if you get totally frustrated, try another class.

But don't underestimate a Coercer who plays their class damn well and knows what they are doing. That is something valuble for sure, in raids definetly. They give me Harmonious Link =p

The few, The proud, The Coercer.
We are to raids and groups what Marines are to War.
Often first in, in hip deep, and right where the beat-down comes to.
If we are true to the ideal: every other combatant on "our" side is damn glad we're in there with them.

(You may not be able to tell I'm damn proud to be a Coercer.)
((and I've been one since day one of EQ1 - back then, they just hadn't coined the name))
