The Raid Wizzy, Dakkotaa looking your wayFollow

So i used to be pretty high on my guild's raid parse, but with the addition of some necros and warlocks to our guild, i find i'm not even making the parse. I'm 3 AA away from manaburn which i know will help.

Also i did NOT go with free hand sorcercery. I went STR and AGI. Was this a mistake? I have a sweet fabled two handed staff that i would hate to give up, but if free handed sorcerery is that essential for high dps i'll have to switch.

Also, what is your raiding spell casting order? I have heard this is paramount to squeezing every drop of dps out of wizzys.

hehe, prepare for lengthy ramble...

I used to go with manaburn. I actually changed it though to my fire and ice line. Manaburn spikes on single fights but I don't realy think its that overall amazing for raid situations...despite how fun it is. I put enough into each tree so that I could get iceshape and fireshape. Then i maxed out frigid gift and put some into Inferno Surge. So i can be proc'ing for a ton of the fight. THe manaburn line gives more mana but I don't realy have any problem with mana anyhow, especially with the right groups.

- For my ice side - I maxed out Ice nova, Rending Icicles, Fusion, and Frigid Gift + got ice shape. rest of the AA's were ones i just filled to get to others(only 1 AA in ST and GW).
- For my heat side - I maxed out incapacitate, ball of lava. Put 4 Aa's into sunstrike and irradiate. put 1 AA in FC and FS. got Fireshape and put the remainder of AA to extend Inferno Surge.

I also use the STR and WIS line. I've heard alot argue that AGI and WIS is the better. I think its preference and whichever works good cause I've seen nice parsing from both setups. I think crits are more important though. I think WIS line is a MUST for wizards. I've seen a ton of 2 handed staffs and I wouldn't even change my setup if I owned the pumpkin headed horsemans 2 hander staff. %8 increase of dmg on spells like Ice Nova, Fusion, Ball of Lava and your higher end hits is huge. And freehand + catalyt just super nukes a mob. I've seen Ice nova crit for 25 - 26k and I've seen Fusion hit up to 33k in raid setups. Check out these 1 handers and try to get them, they are some decent ones for sure.

1. Staff of Light (super pimp 1 hander from Avatar of Flame - best one hands down...I dream of this one:()
2. Wand of Crystalized Plasma (Ornate drop from mob in Unrest)
3. Dagger of Arcane Rites (fabed item from Chel'Drak)
4. GrizzlesFazzles Walking Stick <-- best questable 1 hander by far - you should atleast be using this if you don't have the above 1 handers.

Also what is your group setup usually...that is sooo important. My idea setup is:

Wizard - has no more than a melee proc to offer to other toons but, benefits massivly from the right group. Frigid Gift + Ice Shape isn't bad for group DPS if enough people have a handful of ice/magic/heat spells.
Warlock - who uses Propagation, the AA to increase proc trigger % chance by 3 (awesome when you have 8 or more dmg procs going off)
Fury, to cast Vim giving 95 - 115 extra INT and around 500 - 600 mana
Troub - aria of acclamation, harmonization, DKTM, allegro, Allins deaggro song, resonance, 50+ flowing thought regen and their other slew of temp buffs. (I atleast think those are the important ones)
Illusionist - For their 50+ flowing thought manaregen, Time Compression, Synergism and other temp buffs.
Necromancer - Almost every one of their spells seems to be a DoT and if a troub has harmonization this helps them out quite a bit. They don't have AS much as the others to offer, like the wizzys situation, but they reap all the greap dps benefits from the group. Plus I seen some necros do insane DPS...moreso than conjurors often (/ducks)

Anywho, thats my ideal group. Heres a parse with JUST about that setup (minus the warlock) from Freethinkers Hideout...the upper half of it. I had time compression on me the whole time as well.

Sprink 1196048 | 1357.60 <-- illu
Kalavar 1471238 | 1347.29 <-- (scout)

Its hard to say how much more dps I did over Kah cause I had TC. But as i said either setup can hit the parse for sure. Really relies on your group. Try both Sorcerer setups and see which you parse better with.

ps. My initial order is Usually the same. Rending Icicles, and a small dot, then Ice sheild. Other than that, I just try to hit what has the longer recast quicker, so its useable again in the fight. And I try to keep my best hits always on recast...if that makes any sense. /shrug - I don't have a true order.

Thanks for the awsome info Dakkotaa. I'm sad cause it looks like i'm going to hvae to give up my two handed staff that has 58 Int, 200 pwr, and 4 FT. But that isn't enough to offset the 8% bonus from Wis line. Luckly i don't remember how much DKP i spent on it, but it was prolly a lot =(

I have Grizez walking stick so i'll have to dust it off until i find a better one hander. I am really going to have to think on STR vs AGI. Catalist seems like a must have, but from the very beginning i've wanted to make a "tweeker" mage. Think the mage from daiblo II, hucking a continous stream of fire balls. When i made this toon when EQ2 came out, i thought Agi effected casting rate so i made a dark elf for the extra Agi. Then the bitter truth set in.

I vote for more (some?) increased casting rate items in EQ2. There are SO MANY haste items that increase mele damage.

Anywho, thanks a bunch for again for the info. Here's to me making my guilds raid parse again and reminding them that i'm not totally worthless =)

So what are some of best combos to generate max dps from wizard in raid. I have both Fireshape/Iceshape, and Agi/Wis line. Have fairly decent gear.. just looking for some pointers..

Well, i finally got Manaburn. I hit my first raid this weekend with the spell and finally started making the parse again... when Manaburn is up. As it works out it's up about 1 in every 3 pulls if we are moving along fairly well.

The casting order that i found works best for me is: Fidged gift, inferno serge, fiery convolusions, Irradiate, free hand sorcery, ball of lava, rending icicles, catalist, ice nova, ball of lava, incapacitate, then manaburn.

Of course i add or subtract spells so that manaburn is the last to hit. If the mob is up long enough to get all of these off, i get about 1800-2000 dps.

manaburn hits between 35-55k dd depending on how much mana i have left. This is without a troubador or illusionist in group, so it's pretty much all my self buffed dps.

I'm pretty sure i'll be going down the fire line with my remaining AA (29 left) so that i can make all my hits do fire damage while inferno serge is up. I may go fire and ice in the end, but not before i've had my fill of 50k damage hits!
