Question about Purchasing ExpansionsFollow

#1 May 30 2007 at 10:31 AM Rating: Good
My wife and I currently own the original EQII, purchased when it was released some time ago. We took quite an extended vacation from it (left around the time DoF released), and have recently started back up again. We're both in the 30's now...and although we've kinda ignored the expansions up until now, since we're closing in on 50 quickly, we're finding ourselves in an akward situation.

DoF and KoS both released a while ago, and obviously EoF is fairly new. With the announcement of the newest expansion on the horizon, we've pretty much realized it's time to get off the lazy wagon and buy up the expansions. A familiy member managed to find a Bundle that they purchased, which included the original game, DoF, KoS, and EoF all in one bundle (I think they got it at Best Buy or something). I contacted SoE to find out if we were to purchase that (since we own the original game), if we would still be able to use the One registration key that bundle came with to only utilize the expansions in the bundle, and the answer was yes. So great! We head to Best Buy, only to find that they don't have that bundle anymore (dammit!).

Now, considering they're on the 4th upcoming expansion, does anyone know of an expansion bundle that includes the 3 current expansions? (or even DoF and KoS?). Station has the games for digital downloads at ridiculous prices, considering you can get a bundle of DoF and EoF for $39.99 (including the original game). Why is it they have DoF and EoF bundled and not KoS? We really want to get the expansions, but we don't want to have to pay $29.99 per expansion ($89.97) times two for each of our accounts. Any ideas? Thanks if anyone has any idea of what/where there's a bundle like this.

My advice is to just hunt your local game stores (EB, Gamestop, Futureshop, Gamecrazy, etc.) for a retail box copy of Echoes of Faydwer. Regardless of the retailer, it should come with all 3 expansions.

Meh, I've hunted every local shop available (EBGames, Gamestop/Funco, BestBuy, etc). None of the EoF Retail Box versions come with the other expansions. All have DoF and KoS available (limited to which store) for prices varying from $23.99 to $29.99 and EoF retails for $39.99 (almost identical to Station pricing). The only pricebreaks I can find are going to something like Amazon or Frys online and buying them seperately, which still doesn't fix the problem. Ahh well, guess I'll just wait and see if SoE releases a bundle with the 3 expansions again or something. Thanks anyway

That's odd. I've never seen a retail copy of EoF that didn't have each expansion. Ah well.

If you want to save some cash you can get away with skipping Desert of Flames. Desert of Flames used to be your only option for post-50 play, however now you have Kingdom of Sky which can start being beneficial to you in the low to mid 50's and Echoes of Faydwer which has zones all up and down the spectrum. You won't honestly be missing out on much as most people spend their high end time in EoF instances or KoS zones. DoF is largely used for farming and utility now so you aren't missing much by passing it up.

after looking at my copy, it should say on the back, near the bottom that it does come with all 3 expansions. I have yet to see a retail copy of EoF that doesn't say that.

I got my EOF with all expansions from Harvey Norman not long ago.

Don't just look at game stores, major department stores tend to have them too.
I've noticed that about Harvey Norman, when a game store doesn't have something, they tend to.

All EoF Retail boxes have all three expansions plus the base game. No "Just EoF" retail boxes were published. The only way to get "Just EoF" is via Digital Download.

Have you tried EBGames Online?? Often times when you can't find boxes in the store, you can order it from EBGames and have it shipped to the store nearest you for pick up, or sent directly to your house.. May cost you a bit for shipping, but much cheaper than buying all expansions seperately... If you wait for the new expansion (Kunark), it will probably have all of them. But, that is not due out, 'til about November, I have heard.. Good Luck, and have fun.. you will find a lot of changes w/ the new stuff.. Lots of Fun ;-)

This is the bit where I remind folks that Allakhazam Premium Members get a discount on games at GameStop!

Just to toss in my $0.02 ...
As far as I know, all retail boxes (not digital downloads) come with all 3 expansions. If you downloaded EoF, that's all you get.

I had no problem picking up my 2 copies at Best Buy. Since EoF has been out a bit they're not as plentiful, but you should still be able to find a copy or 3...

Good luck!
