AA SpecFollow

#1 May 21 2007 at 3:57 PM Rating: Decent
I'm very new to EQ2 and am having difficulties specing out my AA trees. I'm currently a level 43 Wizard with 44 AA's. and initially went down the STR line to get Catalyst. I decided a bit later that was a mistake and respec'd to 4-4-4-8 in STR to max out crits and 4-4-4-6 in WIS to max out base damage (I spent 5 in magi shield before I realized I should max out sorcerer tree first). Overall, this is what "I" believe I should end my spec with. However, I'm not retarded enough to think I know what I'm doing, so I'd really appreciate some input on what most high end Wizzies spec.

Here's what I'm going for at the moment

Sorcerer Tree:
+ Familiar: 1
+ STR: 4 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 1
+ WIS: 4 + 7 + 4 + 8 + 1

Wizard Tree:
- Power
+ Amplify x 5
+ Painful Meditation x 5
+ Accord x 5
+ Essence Harvest x 5
+ Manaburn

- Cold
+ Cold Whirl x 5
+ Ice Coment x 5
+ Surging Tempest x 5
+ Frostbound Gift x 5
+ Iceshape

-Shielding
+ Magi Shield x 8

I spec'd myself to try and do the most raid dps I can do...

For Soercerer tree I do

STR - 4 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 1
WIS - 4 - 8 - 4 - 7 - 1 (i dont think its makes a huge different whether brainstorm or freehand get the extra AA...probably more preference)

and I just see a slight problem with your wizard tree...it can't work that way.

First off...for that tree I use..

the manaburn way. I used my points slightly different...I added some extra of the distribution to Cardinal Intromission...to speed up its casting time since its so slow.

And I went down the cold line

rending icicles - 5
Ice nova - 5 / Shocking Flash 3
Surging Tempest - 4 / Glacial Wind - 1
Fusion - 5

Then I got the iceshape ability and i maxed out my Frigid Gift AA.

Now the reason your mentioned way wont work is cause of a couple reasons.

1) surging tempest maxes out at 4 AA ranks
2) To get ice shape you need 20 pts in COLD. Not 15 in cold + 5 in frostbound gift, that doesn't meet the 20 requirement to start using iceshape.

Unless you plan on being a non-raiding player, I would just leave the magi sheild AA alone. Only wizards I seen with huge wards on them are chinesse farmer wizards who fight ^^^ named mobs all day - it doesn't really benefit our dps at all. I only put AA into my two encounter DoT's so that I can get to fusion. Having fusions ranged doubled and resistability increases is really nice.

Thanks for the info, Dakkotaa. As I'm just about finished with my sorcerer tree, it's nice to have your setup to use on my wizard tree. I totally looked past the fusion aa's (mainly because I had no idea what the spell did until last night) and can see how nice that will be.
