AA is short for achievements awards.
You need to have Echoes of Faydwer to unlock them. Every time you discover a new place or find a rare object or kill a name or finish a quest you get AA experience which is worth AA points, which can be spent to upgrade skills, gain skills or increase stats. AA experience can be gained any time after you reach level 10.
If you meet the requirements press the "L" button to bring up the window.
There is also a second one that is level 50+ that comes with Kingdom of sky expansion I think.

Kos offers the kos tree which is 50 points starting at level 20 which you get from completing quests which give xp, grey ones do not unless you mentor. Discovering new zones, killing named finishing collection quests and at 70 you recive pure aa exp until you reach 50. If you fill a complete line to the final ability you get a title.

Eof added 50 more aa lines starting at level 10 which all aa even kos start at level 10 now, i believe you need eof to get the level 10 start of aa's not sure if kos changed to level 10 also. All aa exp is the same as kos with quests collections named etc.

every class and it's counter part shares a tree,
necro,conj
guardian berserker
paladin, sk
fury,warden
templar, inqusitor
defiler,mystic
monk,bruiser
wizard,warlock
assasin,ranger
swashbuckler,brigand
dirge,troubador
coercer,illusionist

your allowed 50 points into this if you respec you must put the points into that line again there locked in that.

Eof brought in the class trees which you can put 50 points into and those are also locked in that tree once you spend a point you can respec and put anywhere but they must go in that you can move them to the kos tree and vice versa.

Also it is possible to get 100 aa's prior to level 70 but takes some work you can have more aa's then you do levels

to do a little correction...

if you get the EoF retail, you will get KoS, so you will get all AA trees. if you do the digital download of EoF, you will only get the sub-class specific trees (i.e. shadowknight, conjurer, wizard, etc.). The Kos trees are class specific (i.e. crusader, summoner, sorcerer, etc.).

all AAs can start being earned when you reach level 10. AAs are awarded from killing named mobs (though some names will not give AA xp, but they are usually quest only mobs), completing non-repeatable quests that are level 10 and higher and con green or higher to you, and location discoveries.

I hope this helps you out.

The only thing I can add is that ALL things less than level 10 will NOT give you AA experience. This includes the starting cities and the low level zones. So, you will not receive discovery AA experience from any of these zones even if you yourself are level 10. It goes by the level of the item/quest/mob/location, not your level.

Just a small correction. It's not AA's it's AP's...Achievement Points. It's a hold over from EQ. They changed it for EQ2 but some folks are still calling them AA's, doesn't matter to me personally but others take issue with the use of AA when it's actually AP.

Reguardless, most everyone knows what you're talking about if you say AA instead of AP.

Here it lists all achievement trees for each class, such as brawler, druid etc.
