I'm new. Which class should I play?Follow

#1 May 10 2007 at 8:40 PM Rating: Decent
Well.. I'm new to both Allakhazam's forums (although I've used Allakhazam for most of my MMO info ^^)and EQII. Currently downloading the free trial now to see if I like it which I'm almost sure I will, and to see if it's going to work on my computer. While it's downloading I've been trying to come up with a class to play, but I can't decide. So if anyone wants to suggest any classes it'd be really helpful to me.

I'm not very particular with the type of class I want to play, but I want to have a class that not everyone in the game has, and one that takes some amount of skill to play well. I also don't want to play something that can't solo or "solos with determination" because I don't like having to rely on the vast majority of jerks on the internet who couldn't care less about you. That being said, I still want a class that is useful in groups also (unlike my WoW rogue). I don't mind healing, tanking or DPSing, my heart is usually set on a healer though, but they tend to be reliant on everyone else when leveling up. Sorry if I'm ranting or contradicted my self >.<;;

Welcome to EQ2 Althina.

Just test drive a few different classes and see what ya like. To find the least played class/race on any given server use this search tool. http://www.eq2census.com/

Thanks for that site Trappin.

I looked at some characters and I saw that the inquisitor had a decent amount of offensive spells for a healing class. Although I was thinking of being a tank for once (something I rarely pick). Is there a plate tank that can do a considerable amount of damage?

Uhg.. when I clicked the 'play' button the screen went black, and then my task bar popped back up with an error message which I took a screen shot of..

If anyone knows what that means, or how to fix it let me know...
Not sure why it says may 8th either, my computer's date says the 11th

Well, it's a Memory Error (there, I just exhaused my tech savvy).

You might try on the Official Forums, I've no clue.

I would try the official forums but I can't post there =\

Are you using Cedega on a Linux system?

Edit: What's more, it is a memory error...a processing error. It's common on Cedega because of how the software/system handles root permissions (or something like that...I'm not very good with Linux stuff). There is a fix if this is the case, which is adding a "sudo" prefix to the Cedega run command line for the installer.

If you aren't using a Linux/Cedega based PC, I would use something like MemTest86 (http://www.memtest86.com) to test your Memory. Be Warned: Back up your PC and setup a point for a System Restore...just in case. If you're memory is bad (which it very well may be), you may find yourself needing to replace it if the benchmark/memtest stresses the hardware to the point of no return.

Good luck :)

Nope, Winblows XP, lol

Yea, try the MemTest86 then. It will run a stress test/benchmark on your Memory to see if there's any problems with it...the kind of problems BIOS tests usually miss. Your PC could very well run fine until you try to load a certain game/software that just happens to find the problem. Give it a whirl...you can do the test with the free download from their site.

Whats the name of the site? Memtest86.com? And I've heard EQ has a lot of memory issues.. Really hope I can get it to work though, looks like it's a great game aside from that.

But it could also be your video memory or your cache (sorry, Virtual Memory). You did check the system requirements, right? Oh, make sure you've got current video drivers.

If you can't post on the Official Forums you could read the Tech forums....

Please don't assume I haven't tried to figure this out.. I spent a few hours reading the tech forums.. There weren't any problems similar to mine, and yes I checked the system requirements, my ram is about 8mb short, and I am running all the current video drivers out there for my crappy intel video card. This is the reason I haven't bought the game yet, so I could check if my system would run it, and if not so that I could find a work-around. If I couldn't do either then I wouldn't buy the game. I don't exactly have the kind of money to run these uber machines so I take what I can get.. Sorry to waste your time with my inadequate system...

Don't give up yet - could be something simple. I have a very low end comp and it runs eq2 on low settings just fine. Good luck.

Thanks Trappin, that's exactly what I'm hoping for.

On another note, after changing to windowed mode I got this alert message instead:

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb46/Disdain7356/EQ2alert.jpg

I got the error message I posted before when it was in full screen, and each result is repeatable

So am I SOL or can I run the game under a setting that doesn't require pixel shaders?

Sorry, didn't mean to offend by implying you hadn't tried a few things. One never knows when something simple might have been overlooked.

8mb short, the game still requires 512MB right? Most users agree that you really want 1GB to get anything decent.

Disclaimer: as I mentioned above, I'm pushing the edges of my tech knowledge! As far as I know you *have* to have a video card that supports pixel shaders. The good news is that some of the not so shiny new cards work great and aren't so spendy anymore. Here's a list of supported cards.

hmm

I'll address both apparent issues here :)

your SYSTEM - I tried looking here and maybe you posted but, what are the exact specs of your Video/CPU/Ram. I actually tried running EQ2 on a laptop and it crashed EVERYTIME you hit the 'play' button. After reading alot the problem finally was....that I had to slide the audio "hardware acceleration" sliders to the lowest setting. VIola, Eq2 would then play for hours. So it may be some stupid error. But its hard to guess without alteast seeing a good layout of your system specs.

Your TOON - If you want plat that does DPS and tanks good I would go with a zerker.

And if anyone ever tells you a Zerker cannot DPS, tell them to shut it :) So if played right you can average parse over 2k with a zerker ;p

(raide-wide parse for Freethinkers)

Allies: (18:06) 26547288 | 24445.02 [Kahlanna-Manaburn-59543]
Ducane 2515940 | 2466.61
Trufax 2262312 | 2339.52
Varsh 2110458 | 2153.53
Valthor 2110174 | 2116.52 <---- bezerker
Kason 1994196 | 2326.95
Kahlanna 1755689 | 1793.35
Kamahameha 1547448 | 1658.57
Kalavar 1536761 | 1605.81
Dakkota 1530183 | 1746.78 <--- LOl me a wizzy?

Im going to pull the - I had no troub or timecompression card.
