Question about registering a new game on a Station acct.Follow

Hello, I am sorry to keep bothering the board but Sony's Forums are really not that great. Plus.. I cant even start a new thread and I have been a "Station Member" since 2004 or something.

The question concerns me installing and playing Vanguard. I realize that this is a EQ2 board, but I figure it might involve the same problems that I am having if a person who had a Station name was trying to start EQ2.

I was planning on restarting EQ2 this weekend, but I havent restarted the subscription yet. So as of 2 hours ago I didnt have my Station name linked to any "active" games.

I installed Vanguard (which is brand new and I have never played it before) and was going to try it out for free for 30 days before making a decision about paying monthly for it through the Station Access.

When it got to the New or Existing Station Account input screen, I put in my Station name (which was still not linked to any active game), and it started asking me for my CC#... which is fine and all because I know how the companies just like to have your CC# in their system in case you decide to play longer.

It then went to the Enter CD Key screen. After I entered that it went through the other first-time screens and started updating the client and game.

At no point did it notify me that I have a free month to try it out, so I am guessing since I entered my old Station Access it wont give me the free month?
The line on the box (which I read after I already used the old name) says, "30 day subscription included for new accounts only (excludes existing Vanguard: SoH and Station Access Accounts)."

Now maybe this is where someone can answer my question...

Did I have a Station Access account even if I didnt have any games active?
I thought you only had a Station Access account if you subscribed to the thing where you could play any Sony online game for $29.99/month.
I actually looked on the My Subscriptions page to see if it would say the Vanguard month was free, but I didnt see the "free" text anywhere.

I would like the free month but if I am going to get charged $14.99 for this first month I might as well just upgrade to Station Access so I can play EQ2 this weekend, but I dont want to upgrade quite yet if I am actually getting the Vanguard month for free (which I would still have to pay the $14.99 for EQ2 when I started it up again).

Once again... I am sorry I posted on the EQ2 forums here on Alla, but you EQ2ers are so nice and helpful.

Hrm. Tough call man. Hopefully someone here who actually has station access can clear it up for you. I'm thinking though that at this point your best bet is to call SOE support or hit their live chat. Even if someone here can give you an answer, nobody here will be able to correct the issue and you'd likely have to call support anyway.

And yeah, SOE's new forums really are a pain in the *** to work with.

Went to LiveChat...

Question asked:
"I bought Vanguard today and installed it. During the first time booting it up it asked for me to enter my Station name or create new Station account. I used my old Station name (the account had NO active games on it), and it continued the setup (asking for the CD-key, credit card info, etc..). My question is.. do I get my free 30 days of Vanguard or do have to pay for my "trial"? I have never played it and I was wanting to try it out before paying monthly. "

TSR Robin C.: Hi, my name is TSR Robin C.. One moment please, while I read your question.
TSR Robin C.: Yes, you will get the 30 days free trial, In order to activate the 30 days free trial you need to enter the credit card information. Once the 30 days over you will be charged.

Pent: would it say that I was on my free month anywhere on my subscription page?
TSR Robin C.: It will on Trial
TSR Robin C.: It will say that your account is on Trial.

Pent: Hmm, I dont remember seeing that but I will look again.
TSR Robin C.: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Pent: I am also planning on reactivating my EQ2 subscription, and if I like Vanguard I am planning on getting the Station Access plan, so I wouldn't want to activate the Station Access until almost the end of the Vanguard trial, correct? That way it wouldn't charge me the extra $14.99/month right away
Pent: I read somewhere that if I activate the Station Access that it would void my free 30 days, right?
Pent: I would still be able to play Vanguard and EQ2, but I would have to pay the extra $ instead of getting the 30 days free
Pent: (for Vanguard, I would still pay $14.99/month for EQ2)
TSR Robin C.: Yes,
Pent: So it should say "trial" somewhere on my Subscription page for Vanguard. I will look later. Thank you.
TSR Robin C.: Yes, if you want to play the 30 days free trial you need to enter the credit card info. Once the 30 days over you can activate the Station Access. If you want we can cancel your EQ2 subscription so that you will be charged in next billing date.
Pent: I havent reactivated EQ2 yet
TSR Robin C.: Ok.
TSR Robin C.: So, you can now play 30 days free trial and once the 30 days over you can activate the station access. Please note that as soon as your 30 days over you will be charged.

Pent: Is there any way you can look at my Vanguard subscription? I dont see "trial" anywhere on my account page.
TSR Robin C.: Please give me your Station Name
Pent: <I entered my Station name here>
TSR Robin C.: Sorry, it will not show as Trial. It is showing as Active as you entered the billing information. I again say that you will not be charged for it.
TSR Robin C.: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Pent: Ok, that is fine.
Pent: No, you have helped a bunch. Thank you
TSR Robin C.: Thank you for visiting our Sony Online Entertainment customer support chat. Take care and have a nice day!

So... I think Sony should quit messing with their forums (once they get them to work correctly), and then they should fix something to tell people when they are on trial games (30 days free games)....

Maybe, IMO.

Considering thats the very first contact SOE has with a new customer one would think the process would be simple, fast and leave no doubt as to what a new subscriber is entitled to. Simply amazing - very sloppy work for such a large and experienced company.

glad to see you got that taken care of. i am on the woefeather server if you want help or have any questions on vanguard. I am a goblin necro. I will warn you now it is slower leveling than eq2 and the populations is way lower ie harder to find groups. crafting is way more involed than eq2. But it is different and I am having a fun until kunark gets released then I will be playing more of eq2.
