EQ2 vs VanguardFollow

#1 May 09 2007 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
Hey folks. I have played EQ1 since kunark release back in 99, stayed until WoW and then dropped WoW for VG...
I was wondering how the new EQ was compaired to the old one. I read about some of the changes, but what do you ppl think? Are the class' totally different, is it just like the old EQ just revamped? Also, I might of missed it, but do SK's not have pets like in EQ1 now?
Thanks for your info.

No SKs do not get pets on this game

No this is a completely different game it is not EQ1 revamped

Yes the classes are different

This is a good game but not really designed for the hardcore/raider like EQ1 was...though there is raiding content for the people that enjoy raiding but you will always surpass it before it is released

Thanks G...
Also i should of asked this first,
If i started a toon now, are there low lvl groups going or would I have to solo up the lvls to catch everyone. (Thats my main annoyance with VG...no one group on my server or its really hard to get into a group due to low server populations.)
I know its not EQ1 revamped. i ment as in class' are different, quests are actually quests in the game, tradeskills have a point etc.

Ahh...no the classes in EQ2 are way different compared to EQ1's lol and look at my post about the upcoming rise of kunark expansion for some more info on the upcoming expansion and quests/race/mount coming with it lol

Groups usually start around level 13+ so you will be seeing groups. Some people are anti-social till about level 20 (its a joke about the anti-social) so you might not get groups till then if your unlucky.

With the new upcoming expansion Sarnak's are being added as a playable race...you should remember them off of EQ1 lol.

There are plenty of races/classes and a new race coming in with Game Update 35 (The Arasai a dark version of the already in game race, Fae)

If you wanna get the game i recommend buying Echoes of Faydwer retail because it includes all expansions and base game.

This is a great game it is not EQ 2 revamped, there are some areas of corse that look the same but so much has changed. I have never had trouble getting a group but can solo if I choose to. If you want to try if before you put down the money do the Play the Fae trial as you get to start in Gfay.

EQ2 is very different from EQ in a lot of ways giving it a totally different feel from the old game.
Some classes sound the same, but when you actually play them they are nothing like their EQ counterparts. Combat is much more intensive, and moved away from the whole "hit auto-attack and sit back" mentailty that cames later on in EQ.

I personally play healer classes for the most part and have found that unlike EQ, you do not have to be a cleric to be a good healer. Druids and Shamen are excellent healers also, and as all 3 have different types of healing spells I can play them all without getting bored.

As for Vanguard - I played right through beta and found myself very bored with that game. Admittedly it was beta so bugs occurred but even so right before release it was still not my idea of a fun game.
Many of my friends liked VG, but all the things they said about it that they liked were things that you find in EQ2 - but as WoW players they didn't know this.

If you are going to play an EQ2 trial then as mentioned above, the "Play the Fae" is a great way to see the newest expansion before you commit to buying the game.
If you then decide that you want to play buy the Echoes of Faydwer retail pack (not the digital download) as that way you get the full game plus all expansions.

I hope you enjoy the game and if you have any more questions please come back and see us and we'll do our best to help.
