FFXI, CoH Rp'er Seeks Refuge!Follow

Hello.
As indicated, I have played FFXI and CoH now. Loved CoH, but got tired of it fairly quickly. I dug the fact that so many RP'ed (interacting with one another AS your character) on CoH. I also liked how much character customization there was in CoH.
But for me, FFXI was better. I didn't RP as much as I really wanted, but the size of the world was immense, and there was alot of different things you could od with your time. Leveling, crafting, questing, just all out exploring, PL'ing, patrolling.. it really was alot of fun.
But I degress.
I'm looking to start a new game, and Everquest II is at the top of my list.

Is there much RP'ing here? Or should I hit a specific server to be able to RP?

I played a Paladin ALOT on FFXI, and I know there's a Paladin class on Everquest. I'm not a huge fan of being the main healer in a party.. that's just not very fun for me, but being a sort of backup healer is fun. Survivability is a must for me, too. Another reason I liked Paladins.
I also liked Rangers.. but I didn't play it much on FFXI because it got SO expensive. May I assume it's the same on Everquest, that you have to buy arrows? I only ask because on CoH you didn't have to buy arrows, you just got them and all.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this.

Hello and welcome to EQ2. Answers in-line in bold to the best of my knowledge.

RP exists, to an extent, on all servers. Every server has RP guilds and people who actively RP on them, however it isn't the standard. There are two "RP preferred" servers in Antonia Bayle and Lucan D`Lere. On these two servers RP'ing is more prevelant, but it is still in no way required. AB and LD are where you will find most of the big RP guilds and where full RP will be the most accepted.

In EQ2 paladins are a tank class. Paladins do have heals and wards, but they are mostly designed to heal the paladin himself while he is tanking in addition to the main healer's healing. In a pinch a paladin can be used as a secondary healer, but this isn't the role they are primarily looked for to fill. Paladins are plate wearing primary tanks with divine based healing and damage/stun spells to supplement their combat arts.

You have to buy arrows, but don't sweat it too much. Arrows come in large stacks (100 arrow/stack I believe) and are fairly inexpensive. At the low levels you can buy hundreds and hundreds of arrows for next to nothing, and by the time you reach the higher levels when you need better arrows money shouldn't be too much of a problem. The cost/tier ratio scales pretty well.

Have fun and welcome again.

Falta, (Stu got here as I was posting)

There are specific RP servers. If you enjoyed that I would suggest getting set up on an RP server. There are people who RP on Permafrost (where I play) but they are few and far between.

EQ2 should provide you with the environment that you enjoyed with FFXI. There is always somethiong else to do if you get bored and need a break from any particular aspect of EQ2.

I run a Pali, lvl55 currently, and you won't be expected to be the main healer when grouping...well unless it's an unusual grouping. Pali's are Tanks, but they can also serve as off tank/off healer. Pali's solo well, IMO, and you will find the buffs and heals are a great way to survive that brutal fight. There are others that solo better than Pali's, as we don't have the best DPS, but if you're careful when pulling you should be fine.

I haven't played a ranger, but I do know that you will need to purchase arrows. I don't think that there are huge costs associated with that aspect. I entertained carrying a bow (for pulling) when the ability was added for Pali's, and I was buying arrows that seemed cheap. You can always chose to make your own as a crafter.
