If I have never played the first EQ, will it be difficult to pick up on things in this game? Second, what other MMO would this be most comparable to? Trying to see if I should go out and buy it.
the two games are similar in history, but game dynamics are completely different. You will not need EQ1 history to be successful in EQ2. Infect, it may be better to not have EQ1 history simply because EQ1 was hard set on who coudl tank, who coudl heal, and who could DPS.
In EQ2, all fighters can tank. All priests can heal. As far as another MMO like it, I dont beleive there is one.
Try to trial versions first, to see how it goes.

I played EQOA on PS2 before this, I came here expecting some similarities but I can say that about the only ones are classes/professions and basic area names.
The geographics have been so altered by events that knowing history probaly wouldn't help much.

Yeah, EQOA is, like 500 years before EQLive, and EQ2 is 500 years after that, with a timeline/lore split :)
Stuff changes. I like the idea of The Cataclysim to excuse the massive reshaping of Norrath, though.

I was also looking to see what MMO this is most comparable to. I have played Guild Wars, FFXI, and WoW. Is it similar to any of them? Hopefully not WoW (hate that game with a fiery passion)
