Don't sweat it. These server mergers are only for the PVP server which, unfortunately, are not nearly as popular as the standard PVE servers. Overall the server populations contiinue to go up every day.

Yeah...the servers being merged are the current EU pvp servers lol and they are being merged with the US pvp server, Venekor so dont worry about it pvp is less popular in this game then most.

I have a toon on Venekor. Would that mean I would get to transfer to another PvP server also?

Yes. When the merger happens you can then transfer to any server you like (exchange servers may have special conditions).

I think we have to read between the lines, though. To me it means all characters on all servers can transfer for free within the already defined constraints.

Therefore, any player on a PvE server can transfer to ANY OTHER PvE server, free of charge. Any player on a Station Exchange server can tranfser to another Station Exchange server free of charge. Any player on a PvP server can transfer to another PvP server free of charge.

That's my interpretation anyway. Maybe Grim can clear it up.

There have never been any restrictions on transferring from PVP to PVE or the other way around. The only restrictions have always been to/from Exchange servers. So even taking the already defined constraints into place, people can jump ship from PVP for decide to jump on board and give it a whirl. The notice should be amended to say "(except Japan and Russia and from exchange servers)" which is most likely the case.

You can't move between rulesets. (there is no special Roleplay Ruleset as in EQ1):

Can I move from PvP to PvE servers? What about Exchange Servers?
You will not be able to move characters between servers of different rule sets. Characters on a PvP server must stay on PvP servers. If your server has more than one rule modification (PvP + Exchange) you must qualify your target server for each requirement (i.e.: Characters on Vox can't transfer servers because no other server of similar qualifiers exists.)

The FAQ.

Stu,

Just take heart in the fact that I am usually always wrong. The sun's gotta shine on a dog's *** someday.

I don't agree with the OP's suggestion that a server merger means there is an impending death. The server merger that took place in EQ Live did not kill the game. I think it was very beneficial to the game. We have already had one server merger in EQ II and I don't see this game as on it's deathbed. JMHO.
