I played EQ for around a year and a half (though on and off especially during the school year) and really, really liked it. The reason that I got EQ instead of a newer MMO was becasue of my computer. However, I grew to love EQ.

Now, I am thinking about getting a new PC (probably a laptop) at the beginning of the summer. I would continue with EQ, but because of its age as we all know it is very difficult to find groups and blah blah blah. I am not here to complain about EQ. What I am here to do is see if EQ2 would be right for me considering I loved the first one. I know that since this is the EQ2 forums, people will obviousy point me towards EQ, but I am looking between EQ2 and Vanguard for a new MMO to try out, both of which supposedly have EQ like features. (I have decided to stear clear of WoW b/c i have played it and find it boring, so please dont rant about EQ2 being better than WoW b/c i agree-based on what I know about EQ)

Anways, any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

I can say without a doubt that if you are trying to play your new game on a laptop, you will be hard-pressed (read: near impossible) to find one that can play Vanguard. It chews up even the newest of computers. My rig is nothing to laugh at and I am lucky to even get 10 FPS in the most unpopulated areas. Other than that, Vanguard has some great ideas, but the implementation is just not there yet. If you give it another 6 months or so, Vanguard may very well be the next great MMO.

As for EQ2, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised. I am not sure how it runs on a laptop, but I know many people who play on one and claim it works just fine. The lore is rich and, being a former EQ1 player, you will quickly become sucked back into the world of Norrath 500 years after the original EQ. The questing is great. There are a plethora of classes to choose from. The crafting, IMO, is extremely fun and more and more people seem to be migrating to EQ2 every day. My recommendation is to try the Play The Fae - EverQuest II Free 7-Day Trial or Trial of the Isle - EverQuest II Free 7-Day Trial to see if you like it. Grant it, you will not see all that Norrath has to offer, but you will definitely get your feet wet.

I am sure someone with much greater knowledge than I and a better grasp on that whole explanation thing will come by and clear some things up for you.

I came to EQ2 from EQ1 at EQ2 Launch... and never logged on to EQ1 again.

ditto on the heave-ho...my sons, one son's fiancee, my niece, and I all made the jump to EQ II from Live. My eldest son was the last hold-out though. He has just made the change. I think the demands of his raiding EQ Live guild just got to be too much work and not enough fun. That and I think he missed playing with the family. There are some slight changes if I remember correctly, that take getting used to but they will soon be a memory.

Welcome aboard because I know you will make the correct decision.

Well it depends it is not the same game and you will notice the differences, however there are many similarities. Combat is faster and you will have to think and play faster. I moved from EQ to EQ2 after I hit the glass ceiling I was 66 very well equipped but still there was only grind, grind, grind. EQ is a fun game IF you are max level and raid geared but do not try to get there now. EQ2 is great fun and more open than EQ. Also a newer game. Try the trial.
