I'd like to leave WoW, is EQ2 the place where I want to go?Follow

Hello,
I am looking for a new game to play and I have thought about playing EQ2. Is EQ2 good? Does it have PvP servers? How is the PvP in EQ2? Are there arenas like in WoW? How is the crafting? Stupid question...Is there an auction house? What can I look forward to in EQ2? How much different is it from WoW?

well, I can answer some of these questions.

Is EQ2 good?
Since this is a very subjective question, you will get a lot of "yeses" on this site. The graphics are really nice, and alot of thought has gone into the quests, zones, expansion packs, and adventure packs.

Does it have PvP servers?
Yes, EQ2 does have PvP servers. Three from what I understand, 2 non-RP, and 1 RP-preferred.

How is the PvP in EQ2?
This one I don't know to well because I, personally, don't like PvP

Are there arenas like in WoW?
Well, I'm not sure what the arenas in WoW were like, but there are arenas that players can compete in different games against other players, either as themselves or using "champions".

How is the crafting?
Again, a very subjective question. The crafting underwent a massive revamp a while back. It used to require making several components before going into the final item. Now, it just requires having enough raw materials to complete the craft(s). And the tradeskill writs (quests to earn status points and build factional standing with the tradeskill faction of the city you live in) make the requirement of some classes having to grind out the levels beneficial.

Stupid question...Is there an auction house?
Not an auction house, per se, but a broker system. This is where players can list items for sale, and with certain items known as "display stands", can even sell out of your house, removing the broker fee.

What can I look forward to in EQ2?
Well, not too sure what you mean with this question. The community is helpful and friendly, the quests can be really fun. overall, the game from start to end-game is fun and exciting with something for everyone, from the casual soloer, to the people who enjoy grouping all the time, to those that love to raid.

How much different is it from WoW?
Well, many people who have come over from WoW have said that the EQ2 community is more friendly, helpful, and appears more mature. While I personally have no knowledge of WoW, EQ2, in my experience, is a fun game that has proven itself to stand the test of time.

hope this helps you out some. I think you will be happy with EQ2.

Sorry for the vague questions but thank you very much for the great answers. I think I may give EQ2 a shot. WoW is getting old.

no problem at all. you will find friendly, helpful people and guilds on any server you roll up on. Should you roll up on Crushbone though, my guild always welcomes and helps out new players to EQ2 (and we recently added some who came over from WoW). just let me know if you want more information, and I will send you a PM containing all the info.

You can give the game a try for free!
Play The Fae - EverQuest II Free 7-Day Trial
Trial of the Isle - EverQuest II Free 7-Day Trial

I'd do the Play the Fae one, personally.

EQ2 is definatly worth it if your looking for a long term MMORPG. The community IMO is alot more mature then in WoW, PvP servers are fun, its like constant paranoia :) I say give it a try, i said i would try it and left FFXI, The game is great.

The most common PvP request I see is "Free For All PvP Please" which we don't have in EQII. Beyond that it's the typical class balance requests -- which can be valid, but are a part of any game. :)

I have a seriously biased opinion, but I think that EQII is really stepping into it's prime right now. I just need to convince more people to tell their friends about it!

Look it's Grim....

No in all seriousness though this is a great game, I have played most of the MMO's out there and keep coming back to EQ2.

Others have already replied, but another testimonial never hurts... :)

Is EQ2 good? I wouldn't have just created a 2nd account to play more alts if I didn't really enjoy it. :)

PvP Servers? Yes there are. PvP isn't for me, so I'm not on them, but I hear a lot of talk from people who think they're quite fun.

Arenas? Well, there are the arena games in MajDul and they've got duelling on the servers... is that what you're looking for?

Crafting... ah... well, there are some who love it and some who hate it (just as there is in WoW I'm sure) ... Tradeskilling underwent a massive overhaul awhile back (got rid of intermediary crafting) and that made a lot of people happy (some of the other changes didn't make people too happy, but we've adapted) I'd give it a try, see what you think.

Auction house? I guess that'd be the brokers... you can put stuff up for sale on the broker and people can buy from you, even when you're not signed in (there's a few rules about that, but it's easy to understand)

What can you look forward to? Let's see... Well, the zones are quite nice. Right out of the box, you've got Antonica & the Commonlands (massive continents with lots of adventures), then you've got the Thundering Steppes (centaurs, gnolls, griffons, undead, oh my!) ... Nektulos Forest (personally, I'd love to have a home there. It's all gloomy... looks like something out of the 50's monster movies) ... Enchanted Lands, Everfrost (still one of my favorite zones to this day)... this is just out of the box. Then you've got the expansions... Desert of Flames, Kingdom of Sky... Faydwer... and there are small mini-packs ('Adventure Packs') with extra content for Nektulos Forest, Thundering Steppes and a special Oriental-style Island adventure. There's plenty to see and lots to do!

I only had a limited exposure to WoW (I didn't really care for the graphics) but I prefer the interface of EQ2 (granted, it was my first MMO, so that might have something to do with it)

Someone else already linked up the URLs for the Trial of the Isle package... Give it a try, see what you think! Hope you have a blast!

I played EQ2 from beta and even though all my online friends with whom I had made the switch from EQ then moved on to WoW I stayed with this game.
When I was offered the job of database editor for OGaming's DDO site I stopped playing EQ2 to give more time to my work and get a true feel of the game I was covering. And as nice as DDO is, I found myself missing EQ2.

Over the Xmas holiday season a group of friends and I decided to use the Play the Fae trial to meet up once more and to revisit Kelethin and remember our days in EQ.
After the week ended they went back happily on with their lives, but I found myself wanting more than just this small taste. The game was better than it had been - the new features were all things we'd said "I wish we could...." and enhanced the game rather than so many other games who just add extra shiney effects and hope people will be satisfied.

In the end I gave in, I re-activated my account but limited my playing around the time I had to spend with DDO. But I mentioned to my boss that I was playing EQ2 and if a job opening arose to keep me in mind.
Several months later that opening came along, and now I am happily entrenched in the EQ2 allakhazam team able to devote time to this game for work and pleasure.

With WOW the only way to get good in the end is to dedicate your entire life to the instance world, spending 4-6 hours per raid often 2-3 times a night...no life *cough*...With eq2 there are 2 completely different sides of the game...Tradeskills and combat. Most people play to level 70 in combat and then grind their tradeskill level to 70 after that. EQ2 is so much bigger and it has such a great design it seems that they took the good stuff outta WOW and threw it into their game...The interface is the same key-wise, so you wont be getting used to a knew set of keys. I played WOW for about a year and got bored of going to instances all day for a couple items. The broker system is almost exactly like the auction house from WOW...you can search and buy right there at the NPC. In EQ2 there is player owned housing in which you can put items into your house virtually anywhere and completely customize it with new finishes and addons. When someone buys a house, its generally because whenever you buy one, you get extra slots to sell items in the broker. You can become a Carpenter in the tradeskill world and build new items to place into your home. Generally new players cant afford a giant house, so they stick to the old fashioned apartment with weekly rent (:D). its like 6s per week to keep your apartment, but youll be making gold from almost everything you pick up so 6s will be nothing. The gold system is almost the same (100b=1s...100s=1g...and the plat, which is just 100g stacked into 1 unit) I dont know much about the PVP except that its not worth doing...You see, whenever you go to instances you group with both the good and evil classes, because each class gives something to the party. I have also heard that instead of good vs evil in pvp, its you vs. all...Dont quote me on this because its just what ive heard...Instances are pretty much the same as each instance has a goal at the end, with lots and lots of loot that comes with it. LOOT: lets talk about loot. Whenever you start out on "beginner isle" you will be "poor" as you might say, only having 10s at the end, but as you level, you will discover that with almost each Encounter (more than 1 monster linked together, kind of like a boss in WOW that has 5 companions that you aggro once you attack him)you will get loot worth 2g-15g, depending on what the market is doing.

Well, this wasn't the ideal way to size up me telling you about how EQ2 is better than WOW (coulda included some paragraph breaks) but i hope you read it all and can understand a little better about EQ2...It really is a great game, and if your looking to get your life back from evil WOW ;) than EQ2 is the best place to come...There are so many classes and races to choose from, you wont be very limited on what you want to do...Thanks.

I would not say that EQ2 is better than WoW or the other way around. I just stop playing WoW a week ago because I need something little different. I having a blast in the game even thou it harder to solo in. No one can tell you what game you will enjoy but like a earlier poster suggest do the free trail. and you get a Idea.
