Where do you sell rare items? From one of the normal market stools? Mind you they dont come up in the sell list. Or, is it better to do through a merchant where you trade them? Or is there something I am missing?

You sell them from the broker. You can either add them at your house in your own broker window or go to the broker in any city. You first have to setup your container in your house first. Go to your help screen in EQ2 and search for selling items.
