Conjurer or illusionist?Follow

#1 Apr 03 2007 at 9:30 AM Rating: Decent
Greetings, I am fairly new to both MMORPG and EQ2. So far its been great(lots of long, addictive play and lost sleep:) ) So far the funnest char for me has been Illusionist. I can send the clone to fight, while I harvest, or fight two group mobs at 0nce. Though I have also looked at Conjurer.

I always try to do as much research as possible before posting in the forums, But I can find nothing regarding abilities and stats of either Pets (conj)and Clones(illus).

I am trying to decide between making my main character a Conjurer or Illusionist.
What are the primary Adv or Disadv. between the Pet and the Clone. I tend to like the spell lineup of the Illusionist a bit better, but the real decision lies in the difference between their 'sidekicks'. One advantage i can see is that you can heal a pet, but other than that I dont know. Its hard to tell any major difference at my low level(9).

Any feedback on this subject would be greatly appreciated
Thank you.

Well, the difference between the pets themselfs is that the conj has 4 different pets (3 normal, then a water pet from Achievement) they include a tank (earth), a mage (fire), a scout (air) and a healer (water) so with these pets u have 1 for any situation pretty much, and conjs get pet buffs, an offense and defense stance (1 or the other can be on at a time) and a Magic, Heat, and Cold debuff that they put on mobs. atm the conjs have arguably the best pets in game, so personally if its the pet u like the most, go with a conj, they do most of their damage through the pet and have a few pet-support spells.

The Illusionist's clones were intended to function as a defense mechanism and was never really intended to be used as a tank for soloing. Therefore they lack traditional pet abilities, higher HP, mitigation, etc that the summoner's pets recieve.

The Illusionist's spell line up, although impressive, lacks traditional pet supporting spells such as buffs and healiing.

However the Illusionist will generally be picked first in groups due to their group orientated spell line up.

But it will be the Summoners that will generally prevail in the soloing aspect.

IMO you should look at the illusionists pet as nothing more than added DPS, for reasons cited above. If you decide on illusionist your primary role will be combat support and crowd control, with mezzes and some great group buffs, they are indispensible in any group.
