Can I run EQ2?? Need helpFollow

#1 Mar 12 2007 at 6:47 PM Rating: Decent
I currently play WoW and have played it for 1.5 years. Before WoW I played ffxi. I really love mmorpgs and am just looking for something fresh and new to play. I think EQ2 looks like an awesome game and would like to play it. I decided to give the trial a try. I'm currently downloading all the patches. Only problem is according to the patcher it will take 140 hours to update. Is this normal? I don't want to spend all this time if my computer can't even run it. I'll post my computer specs, if someone could tell me if I can run EQ2 thatd be awesome. Also if I can't run it then what parts do I need to upgrade and how much will it cost. Thanks a ton in advance!

Specs
------
Computer- hp pavilion a510n
3000+(2.10GHz) AMD Athlon XP processor
960MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM memory
Integrated graphics with 64MB shared video memory

**Please note-I am no computer wiz. If there are any other specs you need to know in order to tell if I can run it or not then say so and I will try to find them.

--Thanks again in advance--

The patcher says alot of things... dont believe haklf of them! lol. It may take a while but defo not 140 hours,it depends if you tried downloadin the demo during update #32 then it wud b slow. Everquest 2 is defo worth the wait its the best MMO ive played, i always come back to it, done WOW, FF11, Guildwars, Vanguard, an everquest is tops all round.

I don't know what WoW and FF take to run but...you may run into some serious lag/performance issues with an integrated graphics card. If I remember correct that means onboard graphics. Though im pretty sure for WoW you also need directX so, if you could play that then who knows. Im not sure what I would upgrade a video card to these days but theres a million sites comparing the current ones out. See how it runs is all I can say. Good luck.

Your processor and RAM are fine. I am clueless about your graphics.
As for the patcher, when I download things, it usually starts out saying a big number, then comes down to a smaller number after a while. I recently installed a 2 year old store-bought EQ2 on my laptop, and it was going to take 40 hours (ok, 26 hours after the patcher thought about it some more) to update from my hotel room. I took it to a higher speed wifi spot and got it done in 3 hours.
And yes, EQ2 IS worth it. Hang in there.

Check here http://www.eq2online.com/content/everquest2-requirements.php for the minimum system requirements for EQ2. You should also dig around and see if your graphics card is supported, and if it is, that you have the EQ@ recommended drivers for the card.

Keep diggin'...good luck.

Ok the downloader is now estimated at 1000 hours...I've decided either way I'm going to buy a new grahpics card for my computer. What graphics card could I get that would work with my computer for a price of around $60-$100? Also the downloader seems to be taking a long time on 1 certain file, I'm thinking after it gets past that file it might speed up a bit not sure though. I'll post what file it is later but currently I stopped the downloader for couple hours to play WoW. I just download during the night and day while I'm at school.

If you're hung up on one file stop it and start again. There's something probably interferring with the connection, whether it's your ISP or some mysetery issue somewhere on the internet.

If you want to know if your computer is up to snuff or not, check this out. Pick your game from the drop down menu and select run. You will know in a few minutes if your rig is capable. If it isn't, the site offers recommendations for upgrades depending on your setup.

wow mearyk that site you linked is amazing. Ive always been looking for something like that. Anyways according to that site I meet all the minimum system requirements accept for video card. My video card is a VIA/S3G UniChrome Graphics (VIA/S3G UniChrome Graphics) which apparently isnt good enough. Other than that I should be good to go so I'm gonna go hit up the computer shop which is 2 blocks from my house sometime this week and see what they have. I haev a question though, can I still download all the patches even if my min system requirements arent good enough cuz if I can I will do taht so when I get a better graphics card I can play right away.

Bought a new graphics card last night. It's a Nvidia 256 MB FX5500. With the new graphics card in I now meet the minumum requirements. I'm still working on downloading the trial and I am going to best buy to buy the game and x-packs tonight. Thanks for all who helped =)
