Just wondering how the old world zones are since the latest expansion? Thinking about giving it another shot. Have played 2 charactors past 50 (conjuror and paladin). Thinking about trying again with a healer class (maybe a Ratonga who betrays and becomes a warden). Anyways just wondering if the game has changed much since the last expansion? Is old world zones such as Splitpaw, stormkeep, etc still used. There still people to group with for the old world heritage quests still? I ask these questions because I have seen how eq1 has become due to expansions.

PRetty much how is the newb factor since that is basically what I will be.

Also How does the Trial of the Isle work? If I was to do the 7 day trial then buy the game would I lose my free 30 days?

Welcome back Fronglo. A lot has changed with the EoF expansion, at least on LD, and it is probably the exact opposite of your post. The T2 and T3 zones are buzzing with people. I went into TS the other night, did a /who and found 80 people in the zone. Thinking I must be crazy and there must be a guild event going on, I went over to Antonica. A /who produced 75 characters. Needless to say, I was shocked. Furthermore, in the past month I have started two new alts and the island is still pretty popular with an average of 10-20 people at any given time. IMHO, I think people are beginning to burn out on WoW and want to try something different. Who knows if it will last.

I really can't help with the second part of your question, as I have never done the Trial of the Isle, but it would seem plausible that the 30-day free period and the trial are two different entities, so you should be alright.

The betrayals from WoW have been going on for a while. There was a lull just after the expansion came out, but it's picking up again. Probably as people find there's nothing new to do once you've hit level 70 and seen everything in the expansion. I'm just basing that on the number of posts here saying "I played WoW, and I'm thinking about switching..."

I suspect there are also EQ1 players who got a Station Pass to try Vanguard, then found it wasn't the second coming and are testing the EQ2 waters. Also people who played EQ2 on a Station Account account and came back for Vanguard, and are back in EQ2 instead.

:) All of the above. Ex-EQ1 (and many other MMOGS). Played WOW for two years (as I didn't care for early EQ2 and my PC couldn't run it well at all). Became tired of WoW, found all the great info on EoF, GFay, Unrest, and the possibility of Kunark and I was hooked. I'm playing lightly and will likely split my time between EQ2 and LOTRO (when it releases), but EQ2 is a MUCH better game than it used to be and I'm excited to give it a try again. I hope the community is stable in the months ahead.

Started me a Warden on Guk server. Was the only server that let me use the name Wiggles (Im a Ratonga). Plan to betray Freeport as I never did like the layout of the place.

Inflation has sure taken a toll on the game I have noticed but otherwise it seems pretty decent. Been staying broke though just buying my recipes for tradeskills. Seems nobody wants to buy the tier 1 crafted goods anymore. Getting rid of subcombines is nice, that was always my hang-up on crafting before.

The inflation you are seeing evens out after T2. Prices are all out of wack because of the new secondary tradeskills: transmuting and tinkering.

The second part of your post is, unfortunately, not specific to T1. Not many people are buying crafted goods at the moment unless they are the right kind of crafted good or they are mastercrafted. I still get the occasional sale on a piece of imbued armor, but it usually sits for a few days up on the broker. Hopefully, they will eventually even out the crafted goods with the treasured stuff. The new crafting-dev-for-now is doing an excellent job listening to the players and appears poised to help out the crafting community. Here's to hoping he can pull it off.

In crafting Handcrafted (commons) are the equivalent of yard trash drops - grind 'em and for the most part, sell 'em. The money is in Mastercrafted (used to be rare Legendary) and Adornments. It's really a game of knowing your market more than anything else. The good news is T1 and T2 go very very fast.

When you hit tradeskill level 20 you can start doing tasks (writs) to level up on and make a bit of coin. (Oh, TS writs got a total revamp last year, too.) Here's a Tradeskill Writ Guide.
