It's the same in that they are both fantasy based online MMORPGs. There are many differences, but what it ends up boiling down to is depth and difficulty. They are both great games, however WoW is more like "Fisher Price: My First MMO". It's easy. Fast moving and more arcade-like. EQ2 is generally more difficult, deeper, with a bigger emphasis on questing and lore. They are both fun in their own ways, and none of this should be construed as a knock on one or the other. It all just depends on what you are looking for.

I just cancelled my WoW account, it actually runs out today (I was a level 70 priest in a raiding guild, played since release). I have yet to play EQ2 (but I played EQ1) but I can tell you a bit about WoW...

WoW is pretty much like Stugein said- leveling is really fast, most of the game is insanely easy. Alot of the people I know have 3-4 max level characters because of this, and some people reached max level in less than 24 hours from when the level cap was raised by 10. As a semi-casual gamer, I reached level 70 in about 3 weeks.

There isn't any good or evil race to play because everyone is 'good but misunderstood by the other side'

The content gets so easy to rush through even at endgame that your main can be all decked out in the best gear, and your alts have a good amount of the best gear and you just sort of run around until another high end raid dungeon is released... Don't get me wrong, it is a really fun game, but if you are up for real challenge and depth, it looks like EQ2 is the way to go.

Pretty sure that would be impossible no matter how fast you're questing/lvling. Talking millions of exp.

IMO so far EQ2 seems to take many of the best traits of WoW and FFXI and combine them to form a very polished game. As you can see from my sig, I'm only lvl 13 so that isn't saying much.

The biggest turnoff of WoW was the crafting system. If you had the Gold, you could reach 300 in one day. FFXI on the other hand was a much different crafting experience and the rewards felt earned, which may be why I gravitated back towards it so many times. FFXI was just way too much of a timesink. Choosing a particular job could mean months just to attain one lvl up (DRG, MNK, PUP anyone?).

The best part of WoW of course was the ease of jumping on and actually getting something accomplished in a little bit of time (also a major drawback imo). "The Fisher Price of MMO's is a very good describer. FFXI had an awesome story and crafting system. It's a shame it takes beyond a reasonable time to get anything accomplished.

As said before, I'm still a newb to EQ2 but so far, the crafting system is great and I like the feel of the story.

If my rambling helped, great? If not I'll go back to playing now. Smiley: lol

Actually-the fastest person to lvl from 60-70 was a Gnome Mage from Europe's Archimonde server who got to 70 in 28 hours and was helped by his guild(he obviously had it all planned and was trying for the record-;) ). So no...saying that "some got to 70 in less then 24 hours" is simply not true. The game is easy..but jeeze. ;P It took me about a month(maybe a bit more) to get from 60-70 but I was also kinda leveling a Draenei, BE and my other main(whom I only got to 63-before it got boring and redundant).

I played WoW since launch..and have played EQ2 a bit to know that yes-WoW is like the Fisher Price of MMO's, it's very casual player friendly, dispite what some casual players may say. I am a very casual player-with 3 kids, a husband and a household to take care of, I still did what alot of raiders did...just took me alot longer to do...but none of the game is impossible. Even the casualist of guilds can do end game. My guild on Staghelm was a very casual guild and we did most end game raid dungeons except Naxx and AQ40.I had (at 60) the epic pvp gear..and it worked fine in the raid dungeons, as I personally didn't raid all that much to get sets of raid gear.
It seems you played or are playing WoW? So you must know how WoW play style is already. :P

I am really enjoying EQ2(just came back after a looong time). I must say-I really like the crafting system alot more then WoW's!! :) Hmm...I can't give too much info about how much different it really is..but coming from a WoW player..IMO, it is more challenging, has way more depth to quests, lore and the world in general, and is really fun to play. :) It all boils down to what you are looking for. An easy, fast paced game or a more in depth, challenging one.

I heard the gnome mage got to 70 in 18 hours, not 28, which is why I said less than 24 hours... not sure why people are jumping on my back saying stuff about that when I'm just trying to get the point across that WoW can be ran through pretty quickly- sorry next time I'll have the figures down to the exact minute.

No one jumped on your back. Least of all me. All I did was state my disagreement with your comment. 28 hours is still a hell of an achievement. As said two posts up, it's all opinion. Obviously with over 8 million subscribers, WoW has something going for it.

Sorry-I didn't mean to sound like I was jumping on you. :/
I was mearly pointing out that it's not true that anyone got from 60-70 in less then 24 hours after the game launched and that the fastest person who did do it-was in 28 hours(I had never heard 18 hours-that would be unreal..lol) and he got help from his whole guild...the toon was always leveling. It's not like the average player could lvl a toon in less then 24 hours. The guy who played the mage had it all planned out with his guild.

Anyways-it doesn't really matter...I am sure by now-people are leveling in 24 hours from 60 to 70. I don't know-I quit after my main got to 70 and I realized I was in the same place at 70 then I was at 60. Nothing to do but grind.. or make and alt and repeat all the same stuff I did many times before, I didn't want to do all that again.

I am enjoying EQ2..it's fun and different and I am always finding cool things to do...so much in fact I don't know what to do when I log on-so many choices! LOL :P
