Quick Question: playing while away from homeFollow

I play EQ2 at home, but will be spending many months on the road now. My laptop arrives this week. I originally bought the game in a store, but since then downloaded several upgrades. When I get my laptop, I assume I load the disks I originally bought and everything will work like autopilot from there. ...or will I need to do something else to be able to play while on the road?

Pretty much. Install the software from the discs that you have. The first time you run it you will have a /long/ patch process to go through as it updates everything to the curent build (2 years of game updates). After the initial very long download you should be good to go. The only thing extra you may need to remember is any custom UI pieces or applications that you use (eq2map, ACT, ThorUI, etc.) will need to be installed onto your laptop.

The first time you load up it will download all the updates, then you're good to go. Be sure to connect on broadband the first time, if you're on dial-up on the road the downloads will probably take longer than your trip.

Thanks for the tips. My laptop just arrived today. I loaded the discs I bought 2 years ago, and I'm currently downloading the updates. Only 24 hours 37 minutes to go, lol. I'm connected at 100 MPS (started at 54 on the wireless, but got it up to 100 by plugging into the box here in my hotel room.) Is 100 MPS considered high speed? Hard to believe these download times, lol.

You might look in your EQ2 directory and copy over everything with an ini extension on it. But a vast majority of your player data seems to be stored server-side.

Is that the network speed? It's not the same as your internet connection speed.

My cable is 3Mbps (Mega Bits/sec) down (max) and the biggest expansion updates usually take an hour or two.

Well, I found another WiFi to hook into and the download time decreased 8 fold. Back in the saddle again. Yay! I love my new Alienware notebook.
