I've been playing for over two years and have just decided to start a new character. All my guildies say swashies are the funnest so took their advice. Problem is, I have not the faintest how to play her. It's like night and day between a conjuror and swashie.

So here's a dumb question:How do I use pathfind, tried, couldn't figure it out. Geesh, I feel like such a newbie, lol. (Don't want my guildies to know what a dummy I am!)

And what is my role in a group setting. I'm used to hanging in the rear and sending my pet in. I'm not considered a tank am I? If not, where do I fit in?

While I've never played a swashy beyond the noob island, I have played rangers, assasins, and more recently, a troubadour. I think they are similar in many respects. My understanding of pathfinding is that it is a speed buff. You only need to activate it and it's on until cancelled.

As far as your role in the group, it is dps at its finest. While the swashbuckler doesn't have the damage output of a wizard, or of the assassin, it combat arts have quicker reuse timers, so the end result in the damage output is not too different. Just get in close and keep the cuts coming.

I'm still learning how to group effectively, but most people seem happy when I just go in and start raisin' hell. I have a 27 Assassin, and from what I understand, just act like a tank -only wait til the monster is occupied with someone else, first. There are abilities that take away attention from you, but I can't use them effectively, so I sneak in and do as much damage as I can.

I'm a Lvl 70 Swashy (Blackwar) and our main job is mainly dps. We are not tanks so don't act like one or you will die quickly although we do have a taunt. It is possible to tank lower lvl mobs if you have a strong healer but I would suggest it. Once the tank pulls aggro then swashy's go around to the back and start going to town. Our back attacks is where our strongest attacks are.

I see a swashy's main asset, other than massive DPS, is to create confusion and an environment where the opposing force cant fight back. With the amount of stuns, stifles, knockbacks, turn arounds, slow downs, and debuffs that a swashy has, its more than just plain old DPS.... u get in, taunt, detaunt, knockdown, force loss of target, create an environment where its hard for otehr team to keep a target up, and they die... Not to mention the massive DPS u put on everyone....

Swashy is a great class... not to mention very fun.... get in there and start going to town... if u play them right, very very hard to beat...
