EQ2- Want to come over!!Follow

#1 Mar 04 2007 at 5:14 PM Rating: Decent
Hiya guys,

I used to play EQ1 a looong time ago, then eventually ended up on WoW. I played WoW for about 2 years, and I just quit a few weeks ago. Theres that 'something' missing in WoW- in EQ1 I was a dark elf necro, and I was evil, and felt evil when I played. In WoW, no matter what I tried to play, even Undead, I felt like I was playing Rainbow Bright Online, and just got fed up with it.

So I went back to EQ, except this time I'm on a mac so it was the 100% neglected EQMac server that hasn't had a patch since 2004... I played that for about 20 minutes. There was no way in hell I would have been able to get past level 5 anyways, as most of the people are at the higher levels and just raid all day, and plus I don't like the huge grind (going from breezing through levels then back to EQ1 feels like hell).

Anyways, now that my entire boring autobiography is up there (sorry for making it so long!) my question is this- I'm planning on getting a newer Mac (I hear EQ2 runs fine through Windows on Boot Camp), but is it worth it? Are the servers still very populated, and is there a good amount of people on all level ranges? I just dont want to get Windows XP and all the EQ2 expansions and stuff, then end up not using it at all.

Also- I was thinking playing either Necro or Inquisitor (dark elf of course :D ), are necroes wanted in groups in this game? Are inquistors able to solo well (i know every class can solo in this game, but does it take 4 minutes in between mobs to recover?)

Thanks guys and sorry if this post is 3 miles of boring stuff.

The retail boxed version of Echoes of Faydwer expansion pack includes all expansions to date. The EoF digital download DOES NOT include previous expansions.

Yes. Players are spread out across the gaming world but chat channels are global so communication with people your level range is not a problem. Lots of group action can be found in Gfay so be prepared to travel a bit at the lowest levels.

Necroes wanted in groups in this game?

People just want competent group members - be aggressive and start your own teams. You'll be fine.

Soloing Inquistors.

No class has to sit and med for 4 minutes. HP/Mana regen pretty darn fast no matter what class your playing.

Any class can solo, but some classes are more efficient than others.

Inquisitors are primarily cleric style healers, so they take a long time to kill things compared to other classes. The benefit is you're hard to kill with plate armor, buffs and heals.

Woohoo thanks for the responses guys :D much appreciated!

One more question- is the feeling of being evil still there? Or is it going to be like 'Go pick 10 sunflowers in the name of Innoruuk' like WoW??

EQ2 evil/good NPC faction scripts seem a bit forced and shallow. FP side are scripted to be insulting and abusive while the Kelethin faction come off as rose sniffing cry babies.

"I saw a rainbow the other day and cried because it was so beautiful."

/gag

Edit: yeah you'll be picking sunflowers at some point - sorry.

Inquisitors aren't that bad when it comes to soloing. They just have to spec for it if they want to do better (melee crits and heal crits). And granted, they won't be as fast as a DPS class, but they can hold their own as the more offensive type of cleric.

I am a dark elf necro and I don't feel evil I am evil. I like going into qeynos and soloing the guards as the tree huggers run to find a tree. It only takes a few minutes for me to find a group with my necro if I want one. Plus they solo very well if you do have trouble finding one.

Heya
I have been playing EQ1 for ages and then moved to eq2 as soon as it came out. In my oppinion the experience is great. One of my main characters is a dark elf Inquisitor and I have to say I love the class and RP possibilities. They can solo pretty easily but I have to say one thing - they lack the dmg output so fights last longer than with some classes.

Freeport has the feel of living under the yoke of the opressive Overlord. He's evil, but most of the people really not so much. I have a low level Dark Elf necro think they do feel pretty evil, they hate everyone else and don't particularly want to be in Freeport. Once you're outside your home continent in T4 (EL, Zek, Feerrott on up) it's the same for everyone. I think many more quests have you playing the nice guy than the other way around. I don't feel right doing evil things for quests.

Qeynosians don't hug trees, we cut them down to make weapons to kill the Overlord's pusillanimous sychophants who are trying to take away our freedom.
