Any other Transmuters out there? I am transmuting tier 4 stuff now, and it has been a wild love/hate adventure totally unlike the standard primary tradeskills. I love the adorns for my own toons, but it has been a HUGE investment which is just now beginning to get to the break-even point.

I'm at, um, 336 atm. Yeah, it's fun but it definately sates an investment of time or money!

Here's a couple of hints:

You can get skillups on grey recipes.
You can level lock on the Newb Isles, where rares harvest like candy.
Adept 3's transmute like Legendary - ie, more powders and a chance at an Infusion.

On the old Official Forums someoen posted they took a transmuter from 0 to max in three weeks entirely on T1 stuff, and didn't pay more than fuel costs!

Cal,

Do you know if the same holds true regarding tinkering? (i.e. leveling on greys)

Not from personal experience, but I'd imagine so. Remember, the Secondary Tradeskills are skill-based, not XP (level) based.

One thing I've found out, that might not be obvious to all is what happens when you apply an adorn to an item that is already adorned: the first adornment is erased, and the second one is applied.

Has anyone figured out exactly which items won't take adorns? I know imbued mastercrafted stuff won't, of course, but I have also seen the occasional looted item that looked like it would, but surprised me by refusing the adorn. I've also seen a fabled weapon with a proc that accepted an adorn proc.

Imbued stuff can be Adorned with GU 24. I do believe Claymore rewards can now be imbued, also.

How to tell if something cannot be imbued? It has an "Ornate" tag on it :)

The other rules for Transmutables still apply. Mastercrafted are transmutable if they have an equipable level and do not stack. So all equipment and spells Transmute; potions, poisons, food/drink, and house items do not.

What kind of return do you get from transmuting, say Carbonite Armor.
Does it have to be pristine ? lately i've been vendor selling anything that isn't pristine to make room. If you would pay more then 2 silver a piece
(i'm Thudd on Permafrost) i'll sell you all my mistakes.
I most times get less then a silver from the vendor.

Carbonite is Handcrafted, and not Transmutable.

Mastercrafted equipment and weapons transmute like Treasured stuff; Adept III's Transmute like Legendary. They don't have to be Pristine. Kinda nice for those occasional accidental server discoveries!
