Shapechanging - how does it help?Follow

I finally figured out how to shapechange using the Petrified Orc Eye I had gathered - for other newbies who are stumped, you need an Unscathed Orc Bone Shard (maybe it works with others as well, dunno) in your inventory.

After shapechanging into an Orc, I thought I could blithely stroll into the Orc Mines on Zek - "hey, look guys, I'm one of you" - but no such luck! Got aggroed just as if I was still walking around as a Paladin!

So what's the use of the shapechange?

I did notice that there seemed to be fewer mobs in the mine tunnels, specifically I was able to get to the forges w/o all the Heroic Orc Blacksmiths I had encountered earlier - is that a result of the shapechange in some way? Not very intuitive for me here!

shapechange stuff is just for fun. it does not change whether a mob is going to be aggro to you or not. as for the mines, the heroics are not always up.

also, for the petrified <race> eye to work, you need any kind of <race> bone. so for the Petrified orc eye, any kind of orc bone. for petrified gnoll eye, need a gnoll bone in your inventory. and so on and so forth.

hope all this helps.

While most shape changing is cosmetic only, we druids do have useful alternative shapes. Wardens shift into wolves and furies shift into lions and each provide a substantial boost to our stats.

I understand about the druids, I was only wondering about the shapechanging by means of the collection rewards..
So they're only cosmetic? How very disappointing... :-(... those petrified eyes are really not much of a quest reward, then.
Thanks for the answers, though!

If shapechanging made MoB's non-aggro it would trivialize a lot of content. Consider if you had one of each petrified eye, you'd almost never have to fight! :P

It could be setup similar to smuggle, where it would not fool things 10 levels up from you.
