A few noobs questions,Follow

#1 Feb 06 2007 at 11:56 AM Rating: Good
I know that on PvP servers, Good and Evil characters can't talk to each other and can fight anywhere.

But what I haven't heard for sure is.

Can players on PvE servers talk to each other and party/group with each other.

So could I pick Half Elf Coercer, and my friend picks Fae Cleric we could party/group together and talk to each other on a PvE server?

I never really liked how Horde and Alliance couldn't talk on WoW it was easy to lose friends.

Any how I never really liked WoW I just stuck with it for a few friends.

I was a FFXI veteran, and I still play ( Rarely ) on Asura as Enpsi.

Been looking at EQII for some time now. But been wondering about the Good and Evil thing on PvE servers.

There are no "real" restrictions between good and evil on a PvE server.

You can chat with friends, meet them and group in neutral areas (adventure zones and anywhere else that is not under the watchful eyes of city guards). You can even send them cash or items attached to mail or buy things from them through the broker system.

The guild I'm in is very large and spread across all 3 starting cities. We have members from Freeport and Qeynos who group together all the time.

The 4 group T6 raid we held last Saturday was attended by both rangers and necromancers. ('nuff said?)

Ahh, so on PvE the only real thing is that NPCs that belong to opposing factions will "Aggro / Attack" you?

Thats good to know. Aslong as we can communicate and Adventure with each other, even if it's only in areas outside of cities, is alright.

You can add the other Alignment to your friendlist/whateverthingisinEQII right?

Oh and about that, are their Handles like FFXI, where you can see which characters your friend is on, or is it like WoW where you behind only the one character and if they are on another your completely oblivious.

in FFXI it's like

Handle | Character | Area
Digiont > Ensong > Lower Jeuno

that way you don't lose touch with your friends even if they make new characters or are on "Mules" Storage characters., unless they make a new handle or link their character with another handle which few people mess with.

Yes, opposing city guards will attack you unless you are a much higher level then they are. At which point they will continue to say rude thing but will cower in fear!

Yes, you can add any name you like to your friends list - the system doesn't care where they live!

no, your friends list only includes character names and the server name if the character is on a different server. In order to track all the characters a friend has, you'll have to add each character's name seperately.

In addition, it is now possible to add friends and also chat not only across servers but across entire game worlds. (as long as it's another SOE game)

So from your character in EQ2, you could chat with a friend playing Star Wars Galaxies or Vanguard. Pretty cool, eh?

In addition I've read alot that any Priest class can main heal any Fighter can tank any scout and mage deal damage. Is this really the case? It sounds really nice, seeings how in FFXI most Damage dealing jobs are not wanted.

Also are Bards well wanted in this game? I had a Bard at 75 in FFXI and had to fight off hordes of people begging for me to EXP / Merit with them.

Also any servers very large / have a good community, I've become used to servers with alot of people but at the same time there are big names like celebrites that everyone knows.

Also is it common place for people to have every adventure pack / Expansion? I planned on buying the Expansions but was leary of adventure packs assuming that they are only a quest line with a few areas...

The classes I'm debating on are Coercer, Necromancer, Dirge, Troubador.

Sorry for rambling ^-^

*cough* necromancer *cough*

heh it sure is fun to be bad! But that is just for me. In this game no class is a gimp so just pick what you think you will have fun with and go for it.

I think defilers are probaly the lowest on the heal chains, if only because they sacrifice health for some heals, not sure on this tho.

The screen where you select a character will show the trafic of each server, most will be red most of the time meaning busy, I found thesse serbvers to have decent population but the trafic can changed at different times of day so...

Buy the retail version of Echos of fayder, it comes with each expansion for only 40-45$, I'm only up ot level 30 but I havent seemed to miss anything form lack of the adventure packs.

From what Ive heard ingame troubadars get a bad reputation. And I've haven't seen many enchanters that were great at getting groups fast. Dirges provide nice buffs, troubadars to Im sure but havent grouped with many, necros are fun IMO, although their a little to based around sacrificing your own health for me tho.

Good to know ^.^

Do you know the reps behind Illusionist and Coercer perchance?

Also the Echoes of Faydwer has the other two expansions in it ? Seriously?

Yes, although it wont say EoF on the box, it will be a box with everquest II across the top but with a picture with a guy with a bow and other people in a forest setting, not the box with a picture of the queen or overlord on it.

I played a Ilu. for a little while, not long enough for me to get to know them well, but I've heard from people with them that it takes awhile to get a group usualy.

Bards are still in demand.

All of the classes you mentioned except for the Necromancer are big time in demand on most servers. Necro is a great class, and effective soloers...so you end up with tons and tons of them end game (not neccessarily a bad thing, just good to know in advance).

I run raids constantly (and I hear the same thing from other people on most servers)....I'm constantly trying to find Dirges, Troubadours and Coercers. Illusionists are a bonus too, but it's the first 3 I'm usually looking for first. On the other hand, I usually have about 6 to 8 necros vying for spots at the same time.

All the healers have little niches in which they excel too. Shamans make encounters much more manageable, and operating without them can be a chore. They are pretty much top dog for spike dammage management, and have incredible debuffs. Druids seem to be the favorites of the masses (particularly furies)...so usually it's Shamans, and clerics to a much lesser extent that are most in demand.

If you can get the expansions I would do so..lots more to do, and more opportunities for grouping/exploring/doing new things. I enjoyed the adventure packs as well.

lotsa choices for you. :)

Current Graphics card is too weak, and my motherboard uses a AGP x4, the last Graphics card that used that was several years ago since they are trying to fade out AGP for PCI, this is perfect though, now I have no reason not to buy a new computer now.

Does anyone know if Everquest II works well on Vista? I've heard several games are not compatible yet.

Also I believe either Coercer or Dirge will be my Class. Will just try them out though before deciding.

I just started using Vista Home Premium, and I have had no problems at all. I was a little nervous about it, but my new PC came with it, so, I closed my eyes, jumped in, and I have been very pleasantly surprised.

I have played both Coercer and Dirge and they are both very fun. I have also played an Illusionist, and in my opinion Coercer can be a bit more of a challenge, as you have to keep your pet charmed, unlike Illusionist who has a built-in. I find Coercer to be the most unique and challenging class to learn - loads of fun! :)

Really what it comes down to is what YOU will find fun though. So try a few classes out and see what you like best, and go with it! I would highly recommend having all the expansions, especially KoS, for travel, if you and your friends will start out in different cities/factions. The spires will make travel to far regions much easier at lower levels I believe.

One thing also that I didn't see mentioned here is, if you and your friend do start in opposing cities, your first few levels will be spent on different starting islands(The 'get to know the game' area). There are separate starting islands for Freeport and Qeynos, and if you start in Kelethin there is no island at all, but rather a starting area directly within the world. In relation to the rest of the game this is but a small thing - just a fraction of the big picture, but just something that I thought worth bringing up in case you were not yet aware.

Whichever way you go, good luck and enjoy! :)
