A Couple QuestionsFollow

I'm thinking about starting up from scratch on EQ2 but i've got a couple questions.

First, is it a much better idea to join a server with the highest possible population? I've heard that some of the server pops are beginning to wane a little bit, and I don't want to end up with a character who can't find a group.

Second, are there any classes that are thought to have very little group desireability for any reason?

The short answer to both questions is not to worry - not gonna happen!

The population on almost all of the servers is bustling! But just to make sure, try making a character at the time you would normally play and when you get to the "choose server" step, take a moment to look at the trafic on all the servers you're considering.

A far as unloved children... well, the classes in EQ2 are very well balanced, such that everyone can solo and everyone has something to bring to the tabale in both group and raid situations.

Bottom line is roll up whatever you would most like to play and choose a world... there will be a place for you!

I have another question. I was reading somewhere that if you get the EOF expansion via download that you don't get the previous expansions, and i'm not quite sure what that even means.... is it necessary to buy the retail version if you wanna play the whole package?

EoF retail package includes the original EQ2, Desert of Flames, Kingdom of sky and of course Echoes of Faydwer.

Best Buy was selling EoF for $39.99 with a $10 insta-coupon/rebate/whatever redeemable at the checkout counter.

Or

         EverQuest II Digital Downloads

EverQuest II Echoes of Faydwer - Digital Download	$39.99
EverQuest II Original/Classic - Digital Download $19.99
EverQuest(R) II Desert of Flames - Digital Download	$29.99

I would say that the least desirable classes would be Monks and Bruisers. While they have good AGI and DPS (for a tank), they are not as good as plate tanks when raiding. They can manage OK in groups, but you won't see too many MT monks or bruisers over plate tanks. Other than that, every other class is very well ballanced and desirable.

I have to disagree with you, my monk is excellent in soloing and this weekend I teamed up for a few raids and he made an excellent addition to the group. I was not the MT but as support I did pull the agrro when the healers ran out of power and the Pally was down to the last bit of health. I have my agi out through the roof and was only hit once. Saved the raid :-) So it all is up to ones play style - Solo or Raiding

Although that's definitely possible, I'ld have to agree with Diknak myself; a Monk or Bruiser isn't the first thing that is needed for a raid. We're not an MT nor DPS.

We are on the other hand very handy to have, group FD when things get hairy, added haste or DPS increase, added agi and str,...

But to be honest, we're not needed at all in a raid.

Great fun to play a Monk or Bruiser though.

I'd have to disagree with you there, Abuj.

Although I don't play a monk, there are several lvl 70 monks in my guild and they are always welcome to a slot in our raids. Plenty of DPS, good utility, several unique tricks up their sleeves... I am always happy to have one along for the ride!

In addition, some of the best duos I have been in (as a healer) have been with a monk. It's almost always easy to keep them standing, they output great DPS in a duo and they almost never lose aggro.

n short, a well played monk is a wonderful thing!

Well, I don't mean to say that Monks and Bruisers are useless, but we are a bit of a hybrid mixture of tank and DPS.

I'ld say that we are handy to have around, but not necessary.

Any well played class is a joy to group with.

While I never played a Brawler personally (maybe some day)...they are great to have around. As far as replaceable...pretty much every class is replaceable to an extent imo.

What's the rip off? Since this three-month-old thread happened, the same package as the EoF retail box is now available as a digital download from Direct2Drive.com.
