i understand there's no racial motivation towards crafting, and i'm guessing it's all a matter of preference to what you'll be crafting down the line....

but what were your reasons for taking the route you did?

i chose provisioning because i was told the 3 and 5 hour foods were highly sought after, and i was a cook in the navy, so it kinda seemed kool.

I craft a lot. I made a tailor (so that I could make leather armor for my 2 druids), a woodworker (so that I could make bows and lots of arrows for my ranger as well as 2 handed staves for the druids and a wide variety of totems for all my characters), and a provisioner so that all of my toons would be well fed!

So far it has worked out well. All of my toons are clothed in full sets of rare crafted armor (Starting last tier I put the ranger in leather for the agi bonus and have really liked the resulting stats). Everyone who can use them has nice wooden weapons. And everyone has plenty of totems plus the best food and drink.

In addition, I have made a small fortune making mastercrafted items and selling them on the broker. Rare cloth and leather armor of every tier sells very well on my server. I can't complain!

id have to say i chose my carpenter cause i was fascinated with all the house stuff. im a glutton, i'll drain my account for a nifty house item faster than new boots for an alt, hehe. thankfully my main is fully geared and helps get everything my poor deprived alts need. my tinker i chose cause of all the little gadgets i get to play with. i think it has to do with my house fixation, weird logic, but eh. havent decided on next tradeskill yet but will probably end up armorer or alchemist, mostly due to the lack of them in my guild.

I originally picked Woodworker because I wanted to make insturments for my Troubador. (That didn't work out, lol)

I recommend youpick something you enjoy, because there's no changing your Tradeskill class, and you'll be doing it a long time. Level 2-9 you can make all class recipes, so do the "Seeking a Tradeskil Profession" Quest or just make a little bit of everything to get a taste of all the classes.

I chose alchemist so I could make upgrades for my Zerker, but also for the POTIONS! I got hooked on potions on another server, and they are usually unavailable or hugely expensive on Voxx, where I am now. Let me tell you, Mastercrafted potions rock! I keep about 6 hotkeys dedicated to curing DoTs that are placed on me, as well as unrooting myself when PvP goes bad. Power-up and Heal potions are too valuable not to have their own hotkeys as well. Throw in a 15-minute health buff potion, and it really makes the toon one tough cookie. The downside, of course, is that I go through potions like Rosie Odonell goes through Oreos, so I spend a lot of time crafting new ones for all those alts. Oh, and you don't have to equip potions anymore.... just click a hotkey when they are in your inventory.

Hiya Wyrmer;
You say there is no racial motivation towards crafting, but that is not completely true, as you probably have seen the different races may choose as their racial ability something related to tradeskills. I am a wood elf, and our proficiency lies in fletching and tailoring. For myself, I chose to become a tailor and decided that that was what I wanted to be right from the birth of my character. Being a druid, that was sensible in order to make my own armor - although of course in the long run making your own weapons or armor may be fun to do, but hardly economic! I enjoy it immensely, though, and it's such a delight to be able to take orders for others, too.

I have alts, and for my dark elf I chose alchemy - sage would probably be better for my toons since we're all priest/mage characters in need of spell upgrades. (But then I made yet another alt a sage, and no, I am not going to level her to 70 just to provide spells, it would be more economic to buy all masters off the broker, LOL!! But it's fun all the same.) And Dark elves get + chemistry as a racial ability, so again, that works out fine. My other wood elf toon will probably take advantage of the fletching racial trait, and become a woodworker if I find that I have the patience for even more crafting. It's becoming a bit much to chew...

My provisioner alt was created solely to feed me and the other toons (but since I was lucky in choosing an adventure class for her, I love adventuring with her too). Her secondary tradeskill had to be tinkering. She's a gnome, for crying out loud, how could I choose differently...? But then again, I like to be in character. Others may not give a hoot about that, and that's fine, too.

Bottom line and the advice I give others is: choose something that is useful but not if you don't enjoy it, because if you don't enjoy it you won't be doing it, and then it is of absolutely no use at all.

The racial traditions all by them selves don't do much, but those added to +5's here and there off equipment and it does start to make a difference.

I went Woodworker because eventually we were supposed to be able to make bardic instruments, lol. Took me three weeks of turning it over in my head to come to that decision...

Zuyia is right. Pick something you like. You'll be doing it a long long time.

I picked an Outfitter for my main because I want to make weapons eventually. The more I played EQ, the more I ventured out to sample the rest of the race and classes. I really like the wizard/warlock classes now and decided to try the Scholar track with my main wizard. :-)
