Do i have to do a certain quest or kill a certain mob?

I got plenty of suffix's. I have asked my guild and in game but nobody seems to know. Even the people with them do not remember how they got them. A few found they had them after I ask the question.

Prefixes can be bought.

There are several ways of doing this, either visit a city merchant or one that sells items and names for one of the four factions you do city writs for. (could be wrong here, but I do know that the city merchant in Qeynos Harbour sells the prefix titles, and so does the vendor in the Mage Tower in South Qeynos)

Be advised, it is all linked to the guild level (with the four faction parties, you will also have to have a certain faction, not sure if it has to be ally) and they are expensive, 1pp 50gp and a load of status points too for the "Sir" prefix for instance.

As far as the faction titles go, you can purchase your first prefix title at amiably. Then there's one at kindly, warmly, and ally. It's not expensive for those titles compared to the guild level titles and they do not require status points.

On the topic, how exactly do you go about gaining such huge amounts of status, or are those just to show off that you have done a ton of work to get them.

I do city writs and HQ's. The lowest HQ gives about 20,000 status and they go up from there. There is tradeskill writs you can do also.

City Writs until your eyes bleed. One of our guildmates, Squibb, recently topped 1 Million status points contributed. That means he has about 10 gajillion in personal status.

It's indeed not exactly that hard to get for instance a million personal status points. HQ's are a good start, but you'll also have to do writs. And basically sell all status items to the proper vendors.

Squibb must have at least 14 million or so in personal status, but he's hors catégorie.

I can churn out 4 "hard" T7 timed tradeskill writs faster than even going to do the 4 sentries writs in Tenebrous, and they each give something like 8000 personal status and 6 gold on top of reimbursing fuel cost.
