Broker Change?Follow

Ok, I did a search for this and got a broken link. I tried just searching for the post but couldn't find it so have patience while I repeat something that may have been covered.

I noticed a quirkiness with the broker listing and didn't realize what it was till my son pointed it out and explained it last Monday. When you change what you are charging for an item for sale it doesn't always list correctly. It may be the lowest priced item but isn't listed that way. It is listed out of order. My son said it is because they have combined all the brokers (evil & good). I would guess the discrepancy is from the fee the brokers charge for listing the item. He also said they had gotten rid of the black market (whatever he was called) broker who listed items from Freeport in Qeynos and visa-versa. (sp?)

Why was this change made? To me it is very confusing and I think it could possibly be adding to the inflated prices we are seeing. Does anyone (I know someone will) else have an opinion on that?

Thanks as always,

I noticed a few weeks ago that items from both cities were being listed and have also noticed that prices are now some what out of order. (did the change come with EoF?)

This has been confusing since when buying items in bulk, I have always grabbed from the top of the list and worked down until I had aquired the quantity I was after. When dealing with rare pelts or roots for my tailor this sometimes got a little expensive as well as confusing!

I think they did away with the black market brokers in an effort to give everyone access to items sold in both cities and thereby smooth out the economy. (How many times have you gone to the black market broker to snag a deal on spells or other items that you knew would be cheaper there?)

Besides adding confusion, it removes a bit of color from the game. I for one, always thought it was *cool* that I could *sneak* over to visit the Freeport Fence whenever I wanted to.

However, with both brokers now conveniently located in Maj'Dul and also in the Village of Shin, (standing side by side, no less!), there seemed like less and less of a need to visit the fence in QH. (btw - as of a week ago, he was still open for business in his quaint under water location!)

One more detail swept aside in the name of progress... /sigh

the way the items are listed is by cheapest price BEFORE the broker fee. therefore, let's use the Qeynos broker as an example. there is an item in Qeynos is listed for, say, 20g (24g with the broker fee), and the same item in FP is listed for 19g(26g60s with broker/fence fee). you would think, logically, that the Qeynos one should be listed first, since it is only 24g, where as the FP one is 26g60s. However, since the FP is initially priced cheaper (19g<20g), it is listed first.

I understand that this is a little confusing, and believe me, I have had to catch myself from spending more than I wanted to, but that's the way things are done now. best I can say is learn the system, and go from there.

and an FYI, when you search for an item, highlight the top item in the list and look at how much it says is going to the seller. that's what you want to underprice (if you haven't figured that part out already).

Basically, it was done because it makes the whole listing process easier now that we have three cities.

What’s that? Maj’Dul? Ah yes but where your items were listed if you lived in Maj’Dul was based on your citizenry, so even though you could list from Maj’Dul and live there, your items still appears on the city to which you were a citizen.

With Kelethin, this defining state (citizenship) has a third element added. If they continued in the old way, they would have either had to give the Qeynos market a huge advantage (more so than it already had) by listing both Qeynos and Kelethin items, or they would have had to have a whole new combo of black market brokers to cover all of the cities. Freeport would have had a Kelethin black market broker *and* the one from Qeynos and so on. Later, when they add more true cities, the cluster of brokers would grow even larger.

So, for the sake of simplicity and in the interest of adding more true player character cities in the future, they combined the brokers but left in the penalty of higher charges when buying from what would normally be on the black market.

I think they could at least, however, add an option to sort the price by the *actual* price after applied broker fees, not the listed price.

I think they put a lot of good effort into differentiating and separating the cities starting when they added PvP and the split of the newbie islands, and this reverses that trend. We need more in-game consequences to Qeynos vs. Freeport in PvE, not less.

Thanks for the clarity guys. It really helps to know the reasoning behind the action.
