I've been playing Final Fantasy 11 for 5 years now, and I'm done, nothings new anymore.

I want to play EQ2 because they graphics look amazing, and EQ1 was a major success. I played WoW for a year and its not the game for me.

So I'm wondering:

1. How many people play EQ2? Will I have people to depend on with quests. Is there a large, active, friendly community?

2. Are Expansion Packs required to play? Will I have to buy EQ2 AND the Expansions to play? Or is it more like FFXI, where you don't need expansions to play.

Your feedback will be very helpful! Thanx

Heya,

1. EQ2 has slightly smaller population than FFXI. Though we are spread out over less servers. Always people questing and willing to help others quest. Though it helps to find a guild that will help its own members rather than having to rely on pick up groups to get them done. The community in EQ2 is tops, you have the occassional **** but all in all very mature group of people.

2. The newest release of the game 'Echoes of Faydwer' contains the original game and all the expansions if you buy it retail (So you get EQ2 + Desert of Flames + Kingdom of Sky + Echoes of Faydwer). Just a warning, the digital download version only contains the last expansion (You just get EoF thats all). So if you can pick up EoF retail for 40 bucks you pretty much get everything you need to play. Great deal really.

Desert of Flames
is the first expansion and is only necessary lvl 45+.

Kingdom of Sky focuses on lvl 55+ however starting at lvl 20 you get access to achievement trees so it is worth getting early on for character progression.

Echoes of Faydwer pretty much added new zones from lvl 1-70 so it is great to have right off the bat. As well as the new race the fae. Also another achievement tree which you can start leveling at lvl 10.

There are 3 adventure packs which are like mini expansion, available for digital download for 7 bucks a pop. However they are in no way necessary, in fact most people dont even touch them. Except the last one, Fallen Dynasty but only because it is lvl 55+ and has some raid content in it.

It is a bigger time-sink than wow IMO, but other than that, bodhi ^ answered all your questions with extreme detail.

I hope you enjoy the game.

It can be daunting when you first start since it is so HUGE. However if you find someone to show you the ropes it is worth it. Also pick up EQ2map, a UI that makes using the map much easier.

I suggest that you take a little time to play the different character on the starter island to find out which type of characte(s) you would enjoy. If you start on the Everfrost server give me a "/tell Sieko" (good side) and I would enjoy helping you out. Two other bits of information I wish I knew when I started: 1) If you start on the Freeport side (evil), the starter areas are a bit harder and will require you to group to complete them at the lower levels. 2) When you get a chance place packs in the shared slots of the bank so you (same type good or evil) characters can pass equipment and other items back and forth.

Same here if you’re on AB.

There isn’t a class I haven’t played, so I can answer most of whatever you need to know to some degree... and talk you ear off about Coercers and Guardians in particular.
