I'm researching the wizard spells and I understand all the effects but I a little confused on the you aquire magic so if someone could post brief explanation on you get spells and so forth. For example, some spells say "experience","enemy mastery","scribed", and so forth. In the prior EQ you could buy your spells from a vendor and the ones you couldn't buy you would collect runes or whatever your specific it (notes, etc.) and create the spell. Also there is also spell items "Adept 1","Adept 3","Apprentice 1","Master 1", and so forth seem be in the game but must you have these to be able to cast the spell? When you click on them only the adept 1 seriers usually has info., the rest usually(not always) come up with no info on who drops and spell dmg info, etc. So basically I'm really lost on this subject. If someone could post a basic explanation on this it would be very helpful.

As you level you get new spells. From lvl 1-50 you receive the spells for free as you ding, only apprentice 1 though. You can upgrade the spells effectiveness by buying/finding upgrades. Hence Apprentice iv does moe damage than apprentice I. Adept 1 does more damage than Apprentice iv, and so on all the way to Master 1.

Enemy Mastery Spells you gain every so many levels. You have a choice between a couple different options. Basically a nice spell that only works on say Orcs or Goblins etc. So you have to pick and choose because you are present with different options each time.

all spells up to level 50 are given as you level after 50 you have to buy on broker or find on mobs, there are a few exceptions.

Splitpaw and bloodlines both offer 1 spell each from quests but a craftsman can make the bloodlines to adept 3.

spell levels range from apprentice 1 to master 2

apprentice 1 does lowest dmg out of all the levels are given freely as you level
apprentice 2 is bought from vendor
apprentice 3 and 4 are crafted can be made or bought on broker.
adept 1 found in treasure chests and some DoF quests give them as rewards.
adept 3 are crafted can be made or bought on broker
master found in exquisite chests very rare random drop usually found on named.
master 2 given to 1 spell every 10 levels

The higher the level the better the spell does with stats dmg debuffs etc.
You want to try to get at least adept on your spells adept 3 master on your best spells when you get into the 60's adept 3's and masters is a must
other then that dont go broke buying masters if you cant afford em

you said you get a master 2(1) for every ten levels but must you spend it once you get it or can you save it for the endgame's most powerful spells?

The M2 spells are level specific. So the one you get in your teens only, will remain in the teens. Even if you don't decide to choose the spell until lvl 70.

When you get the option of a Master II choice it is specifically for a set list of spells at your current level range. So no, you can't "bank" them to use on higher level spells. You can hold on to it until you are high level, but it is pointless because even when you do excercise the option it will be for the lower level spells.

aw, that's a bummer. I was hoping on master 2 all the highest level spells. So what your saying in that from lvl 60-70 spells only one can be master 2? Thanks for the posting by the ways.

Essentially, yes. Only one of the spells listed as an option when you receive the choice to upgrade a spell to Master II can be made into a Master II.

So of course the ability to choose which spells become master 2 is highly limited. Everyone, thanks for the info! I have quite a good idea on how the magic works now.

the other thing to keep in mind is that every 14 levels you get upgrades for the spells you already have. An example would be, say, a regeneration spell that a fury (druid) gets. In fourteen lvls, most of the time you will have an upgrade regen spell given to you. So in the lower levels, do not owrry about getting adept 3 spells. Wait until at least in your 20s.

another thing to keep in mind is that even though you get an upgrade to the spell your previous spell, upgraded, might still be better. if you say have an adept III version of the lvl 18 spell (just as an example) it might be still have a higher damage/debuff/heal/buff amount than the next upgrade to that spell/ability. but generally as a personnal guideline, i don't bother major upgrading until at earliest level 20. unless, that is, i find the upgraded spell. i went through most of my levels up until about 50 without upgrading much past adept I on most of my abilities. the only exception to that were some of my buffs and major backstabs, being the stiletto wielding assassin that i am :)
