A couple weeks ago I asked about the OGaming Toolbar, if it could be rewritten to be used here on Allakazam. A admin posted they would look into it or talk to the developer. Any progress on that? I really really miss my Ogaming toolbar!

Good question. The toolbar was an excellent feature. A status update would be appreciated.

We're looking into getting the original author to adapt it to Allakhazam and maybe even add on a couple features.

If that fails we'll adapt the WoW firefox plugin to work with EQ2 at least. It provides a simple search in firefox.

Hopefully we should have some news late next week.

Madigan, for the benefit of those of us who have been cloistered here instead of enjoying the o-gaming site, maybe you could fill us in on how the toolbar works...

I'm simplifying it a tad, but imagine like an google search toolbar for your browsers except it hooked into the OGaming EQ2 database instead. It allowed you so search the DB directly and pull up the search results pages from any browser window without necessarily having to navigate to or through the site to get to the search forms first. Good stuff. You could select your search type and enter your criteria and pull up results from anywhere.

FYI, got ahold of the creator of the IE and Firefox toolbars and he's working on adapting them to Allakhazam now.

We have a firefox toolbar for most of our sites but it's not as fully-functional as the EQ2 OGaming one was. In addition we don't have them for IE.

I'll say now the search options might be a bit different / maybe a little more limited due the differences in how search performs. But overall it'll still work the same, you can search the site from anywhere.

What he said. You had pull down menu to search for a quest, item, mob then you filled in the google search type box with key words. Hit enter and Bam it brought up a search of the OGaming database with htose keywords.

If it was just quests I would be happy! You could also use the link box it had to go to different areas of the OGaming site.

Rough graphic illustration follows!

Type in quest keywords and BAM!

Firefox DB toolbar

There is the FF looking one. The IE one looked like:

IE DB toolbar

I hope that helps in giving you an idea of what once was and what will potentially be for the new vs.

FYI, I'm currently running both the new IE and Firefox toolbars.

We're going to test them for a couple days and then we'll put up a link on the site where everyone can download.
