Guild QuestionsFollow

First off, let me start with a little introduction...

I started playing MMORGs when Neverwinter Nights was the thing to do. I then moved on to Ultima Online and hooked up with a good guild and made a few friends. UO faded away and I applied and was accepted in the original Everquest beta. After the beta, I spent a good amount of time as a guide before running into a few of my old UO guildmates. I played on and off for a while and finally quit Everquest around 2003. (If Balin or Rigger from the Knights of Penance is reading this, you really need to e-mail me.)

Meeting up and gaming with friends, to me, is the best part of the online gaming experience. The problem I've encountered is that EQ was server based and if you weren't on the right server, hooking up with others online was near impossible. I remember that a character could switch servers once for free...after that, you had to pay to have your character switched to a different server. Is this true in EQ2?

I'm about to buy into EQ2. I plan on spending quite a bit of the winter months (outside of work and family obligations) leveling up a character and having some fun. If I can hook up with the right bunch of people, I'll make the time to play on a regular basis.

So, my questions are as follows...

1. Is EQ2 server based and is there a way of switching between servers?
2. Where can I find the guilds that play together on a regular basis?
3. Is there one server that you'd recommend for a roleplayer as opposed to a power-gamer?

Thanks,
Halefryk

Yes. Switching servers costs money every time unless you want to go to an Exchange server, I believe. Back when they merged servers they let people transfer for free. If they ever add servers they might let people transfer there for free, but it's doubtful. (Hey, a new server with no transfers allowed would be cool. I think it's time to do it in EQ2.)

When you're in game type "U" and you'll see a list of guilds that are recruiting and info about them. The best you can do is try a guild out and if they don't meet your needs just leave and keep looking.

Antonia Bayle and Lucan De'Lere are the roleplaying servers. They also happen to be the highest population.

Yes it is server based (as are most MMO's except Eveonline). Changing servers costs 50 dollars.

Many guilds on many servers. Some have different focuses, you will have to do your own searches.

Antonius Bayle is a server specifically designated for RP.

They do not allow transfers to new servers until 6months after the server goes live. Since we have heard no new talk of servers, and since no servers have been added since launch (other than PvP and Exchange) I wouldnt hold my breathe waiting for free char transfers to new servers.

Smiley: wink
