What ya'll think about this website?

A) Legit way for game users to determine current market pricing?

B) Might work if users are honest and don't tamper with the log files?

C) Gold seller trying to manipulate the broker system.

D) Anything not listed in A, B or C

Assuming submitters don't modify their logfiles then it would indeed be a legit measure of the prices of items that have sold. I just have to ask, "Why"? I mean, I don't see C happening because actual coin seller live market prices fluxuate based on time-in and quantity as compared to competing organizations. If you are trying to decide what to sell an item for and it either doesn't exist on the broker or it is there but is up for something you consider to be ridculously over/underpriced, you'll likely either vendor it, hold on to it until later, or just pull a reasonable priuce out of your head rather than window out of the game, open a browser, navigate to the market site, pull up your server, and search for the item. If you think someone trying to sell you something is attempting to rip you off, generally a quick question to #your_level_channel with, "Hey is X really worth Y" will get you your answer. Additionally they have <400 users submitting log files out of possible thousands, spread out among the servers. I wouldn't consider that a real represenative sampling of market trends anyhow.

Hey all!

Thanks for debating about my site. I appreciate the discussion. My site is legit in the sense that we are what we say we are, a database of player submitted log files. the logs are screened for anomalies. I believe all the prices in the database are legit in that sense. As for stugeins point about users and percentage of users and whether or not the database is a good representation thee are very good points. Although users do not correlate to log files uploaded as anyone can upload their file, we have received log files from only a very small percentage of all those that have existed maybe .05% and thats probably being generous. Certain items, especially harvested items, have a very larger number of price points and are very representative of the market IMO. Many items, especially adepts or master spells, have only a few price points. Obviously, these prices are more lokely to represent a skewed view of the market.

As for my motivation for building the site I wanted to build a php and Mysql driven website and since no one seemed to have started an eq2 price site nearly 3 months after launch I decided to do so my self. I took inspiration from eqprices.com , a site that sadly seems to have disappeared from the net :| . A fan site for the original eq, it was made up from player submitted prices as there were no store logs in those days. Last time I looked they had just over 800k prices on 3600 items.

I do play on The Bazaar which is a Station Exchange server so in that sense i am a buyer of platinum and have made 2 small purchases, but I started this site back when I was on kithikor server. A lot of people look for this kind of information ( a lot of my traffic comes from search engines).

Thanks again for visiting my site and let others know it is around.

Nice looking site, and quite professional as well.

A) Seems more like a legit way to determine some particular players' past sale prices, of a particular item, at a particular moment(or period). With data from different markets, with different market conditions being mixed together, and very little reliable data being available on the markets/market conditions themselves to begin with...the numbers mean precious little. It would be useful more as a curiousity, but not for determining current value. There are too many variables affecting prices that change dramatically moment to moment really in EQ2, and the methodology of the site makes the figures of questionable use even as a curiousity really.

B)Unfortunately no. I did find the site nice though.

C)(Possible)Gold sellers trying to manipulate the system would be considered like any other players' wares/prices...they are part of the market.

D)Way to many factors actually. It's a nice idea though.

I think the idea is interesting, the presentation of the site is great, and the amount of player response is nice to see. The practical use in determining current pricing seems negligible though.
