We've heard quite a few complaints about our search functions lacking in comparison to what we had at EQ2 OGaming. I wanted to start a thread with the sole purpose of addressing these complaints.

If you have any comments or suggestions about our Quest/Item/Zone search functions, please post here with detailed information including examples.

*Remember, the better you explain the more likely we are to understand and accommodate you*

Well i dont know what was at Ogaming
I came on to a problem recently, i wanted to check what quest were available on the new newbie island.
So i went to Isle of refuge zone, in the search by zone. Hmm i think that zone is removed completly from the game and i had no idea what the zone was named now ( queen's colony ).

I dont know how hard it would be, but instead of searching by zone how hard would it be to have the choice of searching by:
Type
Zone
Level
Class
Expansion
Race
Reward ( Chain armor, plate armor, piercing, slashing, etc ) I am guessing that one might cause trouble, but it could be nice.

Being able to search by zone would be nice. For example I once wanted to find the prismatic quest, and knew it started in Lavastorm but had no idea on the name or quest type. It would also be nice for people who are about to go hunting in a particular zone and might want to pull up a list to pick out some decent quests to do whilst there.

i like what you've done on a few of the quest lines for linking other involved quests so that a person can just hop from one to the next. makes it nice when you dont know all the quests in a line. i would like to see more of this on the other quest lines.

also is there a way to search by questline? for instance type in peacock line and get a full listing of peacock quests, or deception, and get a full line of the deception quests. i would have to say the peacock and claymore are two of the more difficult lines to track, and being able to bring them up by set i think would be a major help. :D also having a clearer quest type search or being able to search by subject or reward would make things much nicer for trying to find which quest gives a specific reward. maybe develop a diety section also?

and is there a way to be able to search by keywords or by partial names? several quests i dont know the name of but know it has one or two certain words, and currently im not able to bring up quests when i try to search that way.

The advanced search does allow the use of keywords, that should give you all the quests that include that word.

I think a lot of people are usin the search found on the upper left hand of the tool bar. Currently this has no sorting features at all. Kind of a pain in the ***. See no reason why that couldnt be fixed.

Other than that you have done an amazing job on fixing up the advanced searches for quests and items. Of course as Stugein mentioned Bestiary would be nice as well.

You also need to get the EQII reader going to help collect more info. Smiley: wink

Hi Folks,

I used O Gaming as my EQII guide since I started playing EQII and whenever I got stuck or needed help, that was always the place for me to go. I am a casual player who ends up soloing due to time constraints and have soloed Drippin my Troubadour to lvl 53 so far.

I have found this new data base a lot harder to use, maybe I will get used to it, and hopefully it will improve. In response to the original post, the main difficulties I have found are as follows:

I can't see on the quest databases where it details whether mobs are solo or heroic. In the old system, this was found in the basic quest details. I can't see this now, am I looking in the wrong place? Is this info somewhere else? For a solo player this is really useful!

The links to related quests don't appear to be there. This was really useful for example in Maj dul with the Peacock line of quests.

I know the comments about the quests have been mentioned before, but if you were stuck on a particular quest and starting to get frustrated, the comments posted below the quest details would often have the solution. I look forward to seeing these again.

The quest rewards don't appear to show up. Again, may just be me looking in the wrong place and needing to get used to where the info is.

Is there somewhere on the sight that gives details of the various religions and details the benefits of each one, which npc to speak to for the quests etc? A general guide to Religion in Norath might be useful.

I really miss the OGaming sight, but hopefully this one will soon be up to speed. I know a lot of people have got very upset and ranted, but this is actually a real compliment to the team who ran OGaming. If they weren't such huge fans, they wouldn't get quite so upset. If this sight eventually reaches the dizzy hights of OGaming (no reason why it shouldn't!) then maybe these people will come back and all will be well again...

Sorry, just realised I've only been looking at the new Faydwer quests and a lot of the above has actually been included and updated in the quests in the older zones. Maybe I'm just being a little impatient. Sorry!

I'd rather think of this as suggestions or requests, I'm more interested in constructive change, just so ya know.

Ok, I'm missing Ogaming, why?
Yes it was familiar.
The searching interface was more intuitive.
Frequently accessed sections were nav bar handy.

Specifics
Please please please add NPC searching. So many times I encounter "someone" in the field and would like to know what quests they're about, etc. Also, when trying to find that certain NPC someone, this would be more than a little handy.

If one were to examine the Advanced Search options available on Ogaming, compared to the rather spare set here, the reason for much transition frustration should be clear. Ogaming users are used to being able to narrow their searches, in a logical, (and what looks like to me) data-base reasonable manner. The Advanced Search options here to me look like a broad, generalized search menu, not a fine-tuned digger.

Now, it's entirely possible that this is all upcoming and you folks are slogging through system transition hell, I'm willing to give you that. In either case, please take a comparative look at the user interfaces, and if at all possible give us a bit more of a feeling that we'll actually be able to find what we're looking for in a reasonably direct manner.

I'd used Alla, and TenTonHammer beforehand, book marked them too, but day in day out, multiple times a gaming session, I found what I needed at Ogaming. I found it simply, without interface frustration and without feeling that I had to walk the stacks of a major library w/out even a Dewey Decimal System to guide me to my desired info.

Thanks for asking, and I'll hope for the best!
