#1 Dec 20 2006 at 5:41 PM Rating: Decent
Ok i just got EQ2. I installed it and went to start it. I first downloaded some updates and it takes me to a screen. The manual says to click the creat character button located in the lower right hand corner however i can't find a button that says that anyplace on the screen. I tryed going into preferences and changing it to play while downloading but it doesnt do anything. Can someone please help me? how hard should this be?

So you installed the game? Then patched and updated the game?

Then you Hit the big red "Play Now" button and went into the game and then you didnt have any character select buttons come up? Odd you might want to try the official tech help forum.

Yes. I installed the game, clicked on the icon(it downloaded for about an hour), it takes me to a screen that has several options (Preferences, my accounts, chat, ect). I don't see a play button or a creat character button. It does have a character select unavailabl button ( Cus i don't have a character yet). I checked the paper that was with the game. It says after you start the game to just creat a charater and your off and running. I just don't get this. I will try other forums. The official one i registered for and can log in but when i try and post it tells me im not even thoe im logged in. It's just been a bad day so far. Thank you for the post. Can anyone help??

does it havea greyed out button saying 'updating' with bars showing the patching process.

(cause it really sounds like you are stuck at the log in the screen just after the log in and are having to wait while it patches)

Yes it does. It is updating..it says the estimated time is 376 hours 30 some minutes. That can't be right can it??? I have dial up but that is 15 days of downloading. I set the pref button to play while downloading. does that do anything?

Ouch.

You aren't actually in the game yet and you won't be until you are patched up. The good news is that the Timer on the patch is notoriously wrong, so don't fret too much over 370 hours. The bad news is that it is going to be a hella long time.

Yea sorry to hear you are still on dial up, but once you get all the patches (probably about a day) you should be fine in-game.

yeah that timer for the download is always off. With dial up it will take a long time, but it's a once only time you have to deal with it. Welcome to Norrath.

dont worry about restarting the download, it wont start from the begining, it will start from the last file it was updating. the update is not just one file it is lots of small files. so when you srat over all the complete files it updated are already saved to your pc.

if your pc slows down a lot during updates it can sometiimes help to restart it.

thanks telilfalconeye for the info. I have been downloading now for about 17 1/2 hours and the progress bar shows i'm at around 52% done. I had to sleep next to the computer over night to start the download program. The puter disconnected three times. I just set volume all the way up so when it dised it woke me up. I got up at around 3am to see that the est-time was around 34 hours from the 49 i started with at 11pm. I was very happy to see 15 hours gone in a 4 hour spand. then i got up at 8am to see the dang thing went back up to 42 hours.

I will re-boot and see if that speeds things up a bit.

Holy cow dude...not for nothing but even basic DSL is only like $20/month now. Not much more than most dial-up services. Cable is faster, but for broadband on a budget...
