How COULD you destroy Ogaming like that!!Follow

#1 Dec 19 2006 at 2:31 AM Rating: Default
Sorry, the current Allakhazam service is a major step downward from our beloved Ogaming.

* The advanced quest search is way way less functional that Ogamings
* The quest comments were half the value of the quest db, and you delete them??
* The general Allkhazam interface looks like the work of a 5 year old. Ogaming's interface was good.

I am very disappointed.

I will try avoid using the Allakhazam version of Ogaming as much as possible and rather get my information off eq2boards.

#3REDACTED, Posted: Dec 19 2006 at 3:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Thanks for the tip. The merge would have been better if Alla merged with Ogaming but the lose of all the comments and the lack of information on quest mean Alla appeared to just deleted the info and did not import anything. The quest on Ogaming were more complete and accurate, sigh the death of a great site taken over by average site that requires membership for the same level of access and easy that Ogaming offered for FREE.
#4REDACTED, Posted: Dec 19 2006 at 4:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Agree. I was highly disappointed last night trying to use o-gaming's quest db and instead get this half attempt. Please do something about it. Not only is it lacking but the performance of the site was terrible. Most pages in your quest db just times out.

Again with people coming out of the woodwork to whine.

I didn't much use the DB for quests, but it's my understanding that with the exception of the user comments it is the exact same database now ported over from OGaming. The actual quest information should be no different, just missing user comments.

As for performance, maybe I'm rolling in from the good side of the tracks or something, but the site seems to perform faster now than it ever did on the OG servers.

not long joined up with the excelent ogaming site as shukes.

i agree the ogaming site was much better, so come on ogaming peeps lets make some suggestions to improve this site and maybe we can start updating quests and get some decent forum stuff going.

i mean dont forget ogaming had to start somewhere too. so come on lets get this site up and running as we like it.

they have even asked for our help so lets give it them :)

look forward to hearing you all on the site soon :)

They couldn't port the comments over, just wouldnt have worked. You can make new comments if you wish. I think also that Tamat, Draknorr and a number of the former ogaming staff who are now working on this site have shown that they are more than happy to take suggestions and implement them. So input and patience is more valuable than getting in a huff and Smiley: cry~ing.

Go use Eq2i if you must but that site all but plagiarizes all its content stealing it off eq2 warcry, the old ogaming and a couple other sites verbatim (read they copy+paste quest info off other sites). That seems like a less than honest way of going about gathering data.

#8REDACTED, Posted: Dec 19 2006 at 6:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Alla now sucks on ice, Ogamming was better managed, more functional and kept up to date. There is still stuff here that is old news that Ogamming had corrected. I seriously doubt Alla took all of the info from Ogamming. If they did then they better get that info on the boards. Stugien the comments were often the key in the quest and spell data base. If all that got wiped then Alla is nothing more than another Prima guide and we all know how useful those are <rolls eyes>
#9REDACTED, Posted: Dec 19 2006 at 6:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) thnks for having destroyed Ogaming. Alla sucks and hoping will come out a new game where u will not be able to put your hands....

I need a nap as well.

Oh well remind me to take the time to fill in my "Data Submission" post and I will include a part on how to add new comments. If people really wanted to they could goto google cache and ctrl+c/ctrl+v them onto allakhazams.

Good call. We should also see about maybe getting your information submission guide stickied.

I just wanted to point out a few things that have been mentioned before but people don't seem to quite grasp yet.

1) This website is entirely free. Every feature currently on EQ2 Allakhazam is available without logging in. You don't need an account and furthermore, you don't need a premium account.

2) Our management hasn't changed; it's in fact better then ever before. In addition to the all of the EQ2 OGaming admins coming over, we've also added an admin from Allakhazam, in addition to the entire Allakhazam support team which makes it possible to do changes, upgrades and additions to the website faster then ever before.

3) User comments couldn't be moved over; however, everything else from the EQ2 OGaming database has been converted into the newly programmed database. In fact, the EQ2 Allakhazam database has more content then the EQ2 OGaming database EVER had.

We have been reading your concerns and we want to make this website something that you will call home. We created EQ2 OGaming, we made it something you loved. All we ask you for is some time to do the same with EQ2 Allakhazam.

#15REDACTED, Posted: Dec 19 2006 at 10:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have to say, that I HATE the new layout. The database search is terrible compared to the old Ogaming. The forums.. a joke the way they are layed out. You click the EQ2 forums and you get like 10 lines.. does not even look like a forum.

There's no doubt that the forums here are horrible in comparison, but as for the main site...not only is it not bad, it's not /that/ different. Certainly not different enough to be all up in arms about.

The merger is what it is. To all those who wish to become a part of what the new site is poised to become, welcome.

To all those who would prefer to ****, moan, pout and complain, the line forms over there on the left...

In all probability, we won't miss you... bu bye!

Allow me to introduce you all to the Karma system.

Anyone with karma 3.01 or higher can rate a post. Rating a post affects its karma. If a persons post is rated below 1.50 karma the post disappears to the land of misfit trolls.

For more info on Karma read the FAQ

Maybe you can try to actually contribute something instead of just registering a flame name just so you can ***** and moan and look like a jackass.

It's the same database (more info, actually). It's still free. It retains function. Give yourself time to get acclimated to the new layout. Voice things that you would like to see fixed or changed. I mean look. People pointed out the column header sorting in the database. It's being fixed. People were down about the comments being missing; a dev (Danalog) swoops in and says that they are indeed bringing them over now. Look at that. As deficiencies have been found and reported they have been swift about correcting them. This is everyone's chance to get in on the ground floor and build this up into what we as a community want it to be. There are things that need to be fixed, sure. But pointing them out civilly and constructively gets them fixed. Not "lolz0r look how clever I am with my 'funny' new board name 'ih8allaomgwtflolz' u all suck this stinks!!111!".

Well I apologize for whining earlier and am happy to see things are getting corrected. I was a huge OGaming fan and hope to be a huge Alla fan now.

Best regards

unfortunately the database is not user friendly. Nor does it allow the same level of access to information. Also the data is not the same, maybe most of it is but the few quest I looked up had incorrect data. The lost of the comments was critical as the comments had updated information that Ogaming may not have placed in the description. Thus by coping bad information you shot yourself in the head.
Here you must know the item or quest by name, Ogaming you did not. Here you see no comments for free, or your lacking in comments on everything quest I looked up. Ogaming you saw everything.

You state it free which may be true but the site handicaps the users so bad it like saying you can walk for free but you can not use your legs.

I still see a lot of spots that might be missing info, such as the Heritage Quests, of which I still can't find the info I'm looking for.

Unfortunalty I spent almost 2.5 hrs today changing all my website links that now went nowhere :(

Still need NPC search, and Quests input, many are not found yet.

I have to agree with the other complaints in this thread. The search is slow, the forums are slow, the interface is clumsy, most of the up-to-date useable content on O-gaming was user submitted comments, which are missing.

One of the searches I tried here said I needed the Firefox plugins, which I'm not going to install. The forum search said I needed premium membership, which I'm not paying for. Trying to comment on this thread took well over a minute to bring up this reply form. In that time I looked up three quests on MMOdb.com.

Then you have what looks to be a moderator or admin calling the commentors in this thread Jackasses and that they need to take a "nap". Whatever. If that's what I can expect from this new site, y'all can keep it. Why don't you try to listen to the people's complaints instead of writing them off as 'whiners'. This site has a long ways to go before it provides the value and content the old ogaming site did. And it ain't going to get there without contributions from the user base.

Maybe you'll "get it", maybe you won't. If you eventually get there, maybe I'll find my way back. In the meantime, there's better, faster, easier sources for the info I need.
