Where's all the pages of helpful posts that were attached to each quest on OGaming?
#3 Dec 18 2006 at 5:54 PM Rating: Decent
Not here unfortunately.

I went to OGaming for the helpful posts and feedback on the individual items, NPCs and quests. I really hope they import that portion of OGaming's website. If not, Allahkazam's has really overlooked something huge......2 years of feedback.

Glad the redirect has finally happened! Good times.

Unfortunately it seems that the individual entry comments were not moved. I'm not sure if that is something that can be remedied going forward, but for now just look at it as an opportunity to contribute anew to the merged site. :) In the mean time, any specific questions you may have feel free to ask here on the boards.

All, they stated that they could not port over all the comments. However, as a newbie I am glad, in a way, that this has happened. All it means is that new "Up-to-Date" comments will now be posted by the EQ2 gamming community and we will not have to sift through the out dated material to find the answer. Also I would love to see where the old quests are no longer valid and this is a means to that end.........

I had gotten very used to the OGaming layout, as I used it constantly - things like the one-click to get to the HQ list, etc. So what happened? Did OGaming just run out of money and had to shut down?

The left Navigation bar under Quests -> List by Type -> Heritage. HTH

As for the "Why" surrounding the site merger, I don't know. I'm sure it was a combination of things. AllaK's needed a good database (let's all be honest, Alla's EQ2 DB was awful). OGaming needed more functionality and support. Money was a big factor as well, I'm sure, but I don't think any of us will ever know the real details and to speculate would be irresponsible.

OGaming Comments

Ogaming, THOTT BOT and Allah's got scooped up by a gold selling firm over one year ago. The parent company is headquartered in the Empire State Building and Hong Kong. Someone pinged and tracked the /whois domain names and the story ended up getting boosted on Slashdot.

There used to be a thread over at the Allah/WoW side detailing the what, who and how of the whole mess. The thread might be found in the WoW general forum archive from around Feb/march 2006.

The plan was to merge all the sites under one mega site named zam.com (allakhazam.com was/is listed as one of the top 1000 viewed webpages ) but no provider wants to host that much traffic.

Take a few minutes to review the stickied threads at the top of this web page.

There was a lot of Ogaming comments that were not longer correct. But even so, it would be nice to have them brought over and cleaned up of old outdated information.

Congrats on the merger!

Looks like they've now brought over the OGaming comments for the quests!
Thank you very much!

They may have brought over some much needed comments, but still, that is fixing just one of the many many downsides to killing off the gr8 site of ogaming.

Nothing was broken, they shouldn't have "fixed" it!!

In the Everquest days, I was a premium Alla user and loved the site in those days.

But when I started playing EQ2 two years ago, I noticed - as did a lot of you -that Alla was focusing on WOW and not on EQ2. No problem, I found the great site of ogaming.com.

Now, I am supposed to use Alla again for my EQ2-information.

Well, I don't think that's gonna happen with the current lay-out.

Why is the default fontsize of Alla so big? To me, that's not easy to read. If Alla really don't want to copy the layout of Ogaming, why not give registered members (who did like the Ogaming layout) the option to set their prefered fontsize?

Right now, the only good thing about the Alla-layout is the left menubar, which is copied from Ogaming.

Currently I am getting my EQ2-info from eq2.mmodb.com and www.eq2i.com, but maybe when things improve, I might return to Allakhazam.

Greetz.

Agree - way too big. Not because of ogaming, just personal preference. FYI Alla had a smaller default font before the visual overhaul, which happened just prior to the merge.

Left nav menus are ubiquitous. Whoever first put one on their website 10 years ago has had everyone copying them ever since. And the one you see now is pretty much the same one that's always been here.

I think the complainers are looking for things to complain about as they are wont do. IMHO Alla has proven to be very accommodating to the former Ogaming users and has made changes and additions to try to keep you happy. My advice is to make your suggestions in a constructive manner, wait for things to settle out before you go ballistic about what's missing and accept some change as inevitable. Different is never de facto worse.

I can't find an overall alphabetic list of quests. On OGaming, you could select first letter of quest name and get alpha list. It was very helpful.

Right now I'm looking for a quest called Intereption. I forget where I got it. Current location is New Tunaria. Can't find it. The alpha search would help.

What happened to OGaming? It was a great place. I guess it is our fault, the faithful users, who didn't properly support them. If only I had known this was coming. Too bad. Thank you to all you OGaming people who might be reading this. You were the best.

Just a suggestion...

Is there anyway to make some subcategories within the EQ2 general forum like OGaming used to have? I.E Crafting, General news, Class Questions etc? I just see a mess of ramdom subjects all thrown in together and it frankly makes me not read any of them.

Great to see that you've already ported over not only tonnes of quests into the DB but the comments from OGaming as well.

There are more forums listed under the left menu like "Everquest II Forums"

IMHO they should be more obvious and there should be more of them now that we have more activity.

I have a problem since merger this site does not have the database that it has for Everquest we would like to have an updated database that shows all the fableds like you have for everquest.I have been useing Allakhazam for years and it upsets me when I can't use it for all my MMOs.

This is so sad like the above I used to be a Premium user of Alla for both Everquest and Everquest II. then found Ogaming and omg what an improvement and a very very great site to go to. Not sure either why Alla took it but bad bad mistake. Why should the players that have played for years go back to building your bad data base when we built ogaming? Why couldn't Alla have gone to Ogaming's? I quit both games for 9 months before looks like the changes coming done the road will help make that decision again. I know I am just one player but maybe some day some one will read these posts and care what we do to give support. Also like above thanks to Ogaming for the great service and support you gave back to us.

i can agree that ogamming was a great site. but i also thought alla's was a great site for eq1. each site has their niche i guess. im hoping that enough of the quest database makes it over so we wont have to work as hard at building up alla's database, but i see a definite good start going.

one thought i had though, using the quest search seems to be a little rough. is there a way to make it a more broad spectrum? the one on ogamming i was able to find a quest pretty easy without knowing the exact name, as long as i was close i could track it down. this search runs in a way it seems that i have to know exactly what im looking for.

i like what you've done on a few of the quest lines for linking other involved quests so that a person can just hop from one to the next. makes it nice when you dont know all the quests in a line. i would like to see more of this on the other quest lines.

also is there a way to search by questline? for instance type in peacock line and get a full listing of peacock quests, or deception, and get a full line of the deception quests. i would have to say the peacock and claymore are two of the more difficult lines to track, and being able to bring them up by set i think would be a major help. :D also having a clearer quest type search or being able to search by subject or reward would make things much nicer for trying to find which quest gives a specific reward. maybe develop a diety section also?

^^^

Not entirely sure where you got that idea. I've done searches of Allak's database and I certainly haven't paid.
