Potential EQ2 player brings priest questionsFollow

#1 Dec 07 2006 at 6:43 PM Rating: Decent
I was thinking about playing either a mystic or defiler, I was just wondering how these two fit in, do the wards block spell dmg? Is one better than the other for solo? How do they solo? I imagine the defiler dots and staffs, is that true? Any general information would be greatly appreciated, thanks, I know you guys get alot fo this kind of post.

I've played a defiler to level 66, so can only give you some information about defiler.

1. Ward blocks all damage. All types of melee and magic(dot, dd, aoe) damage have to wear down the ward first before the person with ward on actually takes any damage. You can look at it as having temporaily hp boost.

2. Defiler soloing is slow. You only have 3 single target dot and 1 ae dot to work with from 1-59. At 65, you get another ae dot that can do great damage. In order to solo well, you will need to get the dog pet through AP and invest quite a few AP into pet proc.

3. Defiler get power regen at level 62.

4. Defiler buffs the most raw hp after templar.

5. Defiler debuffs dps, stats and attack speed.

6. The highest single target heal (long cast time and long recast timer).

IMHO, both of the Shamen are wonderful classes.

I play a 70 warden and regularly group and raid with a guildie who plays a 70 mystic. We often find ourselves working together in the MT group (on a Labs run for example) and the 2 different healing styles are very complementary.

Our SOP is for the Mystic to buff & ward the Tank before the pull. I'll drop a regen on him while the mob is incoming and then most of the time, it's just refresh and touchup!

Sometimes there are damage spikes to deal with and we both pour on the heals till the tank is back up in the green but between us, we rarely lose a tank!

A defiler fight goes something like this:

1. self ward (single or group)
2. pull with debuff
3. melee with spear/mace
4. dot (HO starter)
5. dot (comlete HO)
6. more dots
7. send pet and position it behind mob
8. repeat 4-6 until mob dead (repeat 1-2 when needed).

When you have maxed pet proc, 7 will do significantly more damage. On heroic named, will slap on more debuffs and occasionally need to use heal.

I have a 69 templar and I love grouping with shamans, they bring wards that no other heal class can come close to.

I like my templar but I love my mystic!

When I solo I tend to pull with a "slow" spell that reduces the attack speed of the mob. I then hit the button to start the hero cycle, hit them with a bolt, two debuffs, and then lay on a dot before the circle is complete. I follow that up another nuke while the "hero" button is grey and then start the cycle again.

I have the dog pet and find them to be handy particularly if a mob jumps you. They don't dish out alot of damage but every little bit helps.

When in groups, I will use my group slow spell and a group poison dot that does decent damage a number of times.

One thought on wards: they do attract aggro. Normally the tank's taunt or hate increasing spells take care of the problem but not always. So use some discretion and don't cast all of your wards immediately after the pull!
