Let us all welcome the end to free, usefull information as OGaming sells out their website to Allakazam. If you enjoyed the free search databases, the lack of pop up advertisement, and the general usefullnesss, those days are over. Sad day indeed.

Well technically that isn't correct.

The company that owned Ogaming, thotbot and a number of other gaming sites purchased Allakhazam.com. They hired on Allakhazam to manage them all and consolidate them into the Zam.com gaming network.

So it is more Allakhazam who sold out than ogaming.

That being said Allakhazam has always put the content up for free. Premium just gave you access to the bells and whistles (for next to nothing). It is a business after all they need to make their money somehow. Come to grips with the reality of the situation and get off your high horse.

Me thinks the new member will quickly figure out the rating system.

Yes, well, you might want to see how Allakhazam does before condemning the whole thing out of hand.

I use the Ogaming quest database **extensively** and am approaching this whole thing with trepidation. Change can be very bad. I'm hopeful that they'll end up with another quality site in the Zam / Allakhazam network.

Firefox + No Script = no ads

Premium for 9/99 bucks for 3 months (cheap) = no ads + tonnes of features.

Basically they merged the eq2 ogaming db with the allakhazam set up. Apparently processing new info submission is a whole heck of a lot smoother. They are also looking to implement a WoW reader type set up that will record prices, drop rates etc of in game stuff. So the ability to gather data and get it up into useful form for players to access is much increased!

I'm pretty pumped, but then I have obviously been a Allakhazamer for a while now!

I was a member of Alla while I played EQ1 extensively. When I upgraded and moved to EQ2, I canceled my subscription because of the lack of EQ2 information and updates. I found OGaming to be one of the best sites I had found on any game. I understand that those that are already paying for a subscription to Alla will welcome this with open arms because it adds more for the money.

It is the change from a free system to a paid system that bothers me. Plain and simple.

Because I don't agree does not mean I am on a high horse. Please allow for a difference of opinion.

Yes and no, you don't need to pay for anything here. And adds are easily blocked. I spend years here without seeing a single add and not paying a dime.

Now I pay, but just to support the site. (and the avatar, those are great. Granted, the emoticons are a fun thing too!)

Well in reality it is ogaming that bought Allakhazam.

You have all the access to content whether you are premium or not. The only things I have that you don't are:

-I can have a avatar.
-I have a personal journal/forum.
-Elimination of all banner, tower and popup ads while browsing the site
-Use of Forum extra's such as smilies and polls
-Advanced Search of all Forum Posts and Site Comments
-A personalized @allakhazam.com e-mail address
-Access to all of our contests and drawings.

Saying that the content is premium only is a farce, allakhazam has never worked that way. At worst they have made the search functions premium only and that just involves taking the time to look rather than punch it straight in and have it come up for you.

Well, OK, if they actually pull it off. I thought it was finished, so I went to look up the Peacock club quests and the search didn't find them. So the conversion wasn't complete.

I would love to see a community-built price & drop tool & database ! Looking forward to that feature.

Not sure if they are still porting over the content or if they straight up goofed and missed that quest.

As for a community-built price & drop tool & database they have already designed a rather successful one for both the allakhazam wow site and the still in development Eve Online site, so porting one over for EQ2 probably wouldnt be too much of a problem.

It has been mentioned but the only admin talk I have seen of late is

The current plan is to add Wowreader style sigs. The main holdup at this point is that no one has came up with a default background image that anyone likes.
