Bought the retail box in hopes of actually getting in a few minutes before the inevitable emergency server patch... Still facing a considerable download of 20+ hours. Got it down to 10 hours last night (modem speeds up and slows down). I had ranges between 32 hours and 9 hours and 30 minutes....

Has anyone ventured into the newly rediscovered lands of Norrath? Opinions? Observations? Etc....

I have, after what seemed like years of updating i logged in a nd everything, its pretty sweet, I started a Fae just to see what there like and their starting area and all, i made a Fae mystic and i loved it, the area the millions of options on how to make your fae, the little safefall hover thing, i didnt get to play long but I went through Butcher Block and LF on my main, it kinda sucked tho because i have EQ2 maps and I tryed to removed it but it wont come off... So i had no maps of the zones wich was really annoying but other than that the new stuff is awsome, oh and you have to take a boat to get there from TS or NF and its actually a boat that comes and picks you up, kinda nifty.
Cant wait to play more when i get home today.

Talked with a buddy of mine who has a level 70 toon. His guild ventured into the various zones for discovery exp. He dinged 5 AA points from all the exploring and now has 55.

I am level 64 and would love to get all the discovery exp! maybe it will finally break my slump and get me to 65!!!

He stated that Castle Mistmore is absolutely awesome. The steps leading up to it were well done. Of course, they were getting there ****** handed to them by the mobs inside. Level 74 Triple heriocs that cam 3 at a time!

I've been running around like mad in the new zones. Mostly Butcherblock and Greater Faydark though, I'm just gathering and finishing all the quests I can find. After exploring Kaladim city, I got almost an entire ap. Ofcourse, I did get myself killed in the end, but it was worth it.

I didn't have much of an update left to do, I got several files ahead of time and I believe I patched about one hour or so.

First thing i did was run my port quests 5 seperate quests turn in to portal master go back to each portal was kinda a pain in the ***. Took me less time to do my deity quest. Luckily i updated my eqmaps or i would be lost in some places.

I have to say that felwyth is just amazing the fact you can kill high elves is great but the city was so well done it and by far the best looking zone in the game.

Major problem here.

keeps Looping at various speeds.

last it stated 329:14.23, yes 329 is correct, it started over, and went down to 80.233.34, (on the 14th try). Now back up above 344:54:29 AND LOOPING AGAIN.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I assume you are talking about download time.... 349 hours is a bit steep. Maybe its the speed your modem connects at.. Dunno.

I am a little ticked that even though I purchased the actual discs and installed them, i still have a whooping 20+ hour download. O well.

I managed to complete the download in about 3 hours but upon logging in to character select, I had access to my existing characters only. there were no buttons that would allow me to create a new character.

FWIW, I currently have 8 characters out of 10 possible (station access) so it's not that I don't have an open slot

Bubs,

just to let you know, I have a dual processing machine with 3.4 cpu, and the latest geeky stuff for my compy, with dual flatscreen monitor.

I generally do not have problems downloading anything.

I like to had a heartfailure when i kept climbing with the time thing, highest i saw was 364.

and I tried above and beyond 14 times to reload.

well bottom line.

Im in Nigeria since august, hence the uber machine (in case of problems),

and i do have DSL.

time at this time, 11:08:54 and this clicked down since my last boot up, at 9pm london time.

Im going out of town tomorrow and hoped to have this done before 4pm.
I wont be bk until 11/27/06 :) maybe by then it will actually finish.

Your times make my 2 hours digital download seem fast. For people that bought the disks, dont forget that the games were being created and boxed atleast a month ago, so any changes after they started packaging would have to be downloaded. The more they change the worst the downloads are.

OBD, I had a similar thing happen to me. When I loged on all of my characters on one server were missing. Not anywhere to be found, loged in this morning and there they were. So I think there are still a few glitches in the character select screen.

Completed the download last night around 7:00pm est. A full day and 1/2 after the release.

Logged in and immediately headed to TS. Jumped on a boat. Sailed the High Seas. Then proceeded to go foar all the discovery exp possible. Only had about 30 minutes so I didn't get far. At level 64, Kaladim was the only zone I ventured into that made my exp bar move for discovery. I gained a full 6-7% adventure exp and almost a whole AA by just making suicide runs as far into the zone as possible. Probably just nicked the surface of that zone since it is all KOS heroics...

I will head into some of the upper level zones tonight. I got stuck running around and exploring a newbie zone with the chessboard and the tree city. Haven't figured how to get up there but ran out of time.

One thing I noticed... Running around brand new zones that are completely grayed out is boring. It just doesn't seem right. New zones are supposed to be tough to explore. Need to really focus on an alt in the new expansion. However, last night there were 300 fairies in Gfay.

True, I can't recall a time where there were three instances of a zone. Good to see it happen though :)

If you want to find a good high lvl zone for lvl 64, try the Loping plains, a zone you can enter from Greater Faydark. Lesser Faydark isn't all bad but you are getting to be high for it, it does have a zoneline to LP too though. Easy enough to find in Greater Faydark as you can clear the fog instantly there.

Last night, several servers went down due to too many people playing. I know, I know, sounds like a myth, but it's true. TS over at EQ2 boards stated that the expansion and Fae seem to be more popular than they were expecting and the servers couldnt handle the explosion of population. Blackburrow was one of these servers. At one point we had 4 zones of Gfay, 3 zones of Lfay, etc. If you tried zoning out, you would freeze.

Evening, folks.

A few servers have had intermittent outages this evening during peak usage times, as those of you who play on the servers in question have undoubtedly noticed.

So you know what's going on:

We're seeing a whole lot of new load with the release of EoF. We knew that we'd be seeing some of that, and most servers are doing perfectly all right.

However, on the servers that still remain too loaded, we're rebalancing that load on the backend to try to ensure this doesn't happen again tomorrow.

Thanks very much for your patience.

There were 3 zones of GFay on Nek Server. Confirmed.

I remember when Antonica had 3 or 4 zones when eq2 first opened up. I think a lot of people are excited about this expansion. Good to see!

I will try Loping plains tonight! Thanks for the tip.

OBD: I had to remove Thor UI to get my character select/creation screen working. Since he's not planning on supporting it after this expansion, I downloaded Extreme UI I believe it was w/auto update as well. I'm not sure that I like it yet, but it's better than the standard SOE UI...

The hub uses ProfitReborn UI..it's been updated for EoF...and loves it. I've been a die-hard with the standard ui and am finally considering a custom UI LOL. The standard is just too boring.

Could not live without the EQ2maps!!! There was a bit of a bork with tagging showing up on the 15th but cleared up on the 16th.

BTW took me 1 hour, yes, 1 hour to install from DVD and download updates yesterday. I only had to load KoS and EoF so maybe that's why I had the short install/download time.

I've been hesitant to try profit reborn since I LOVE the auto update feature that Thor had. I tried Extreme and unfortunately hated it. I reinstalled Thor last night and needless to say, it works like a charm now. /content. :D
