I played WoW for a little over a year. With two capped characters, and many headaches, I've decided to leave. EQ2 is going to be my new home (for lack of a better word,)But before I dive in, I was wondering: are their passive pets? I understand to have a fighting pet you much be a conjour (er, something like that,) but is there anything cute, maybe fluffy that'll follow me to the earths ends? Or, am I without any fuzzy compainions for my life on EQ2?

there are a couple of passive pets you can get via quests, such as the mushroom manh, the mini gazer, and the baby aviak. You can also buy passive pets as well, in fact probably a much higher versatility than in WOW. The drawback to these though, are that they are for your house only. Those you buy can not follow you around the world.

In addition, rangers and Mystics both get pets that follow them on their travels around Norrath.

Mystics get a dog and I think a beaver (don't ask)

Rangers get a hawk at lvl 20, a bear in the mid 30's and something else later on.

A pet shop in either city will sell you a huge variety of dogs cats and more exotic pets for your home

Besides purchased house pets, every expansion seems to come with one - the collector's edition of the original game gave you a baby dragon, the 1st expansion included a monkey, KoS has a walking plant and the latest expansion has a mechanical copter.

Be advised that to get the expansion pets you'll need to purchase the retail version of the expansion. The download version does not include the pet.

Templars get an acolyte that follows us around. I think it's an elf, the gender varies. Paladins get a squire. Inquisitors and Shadowknights probably get a similar 'pet'.

I believe assassins might get a rat at lvl 20. It doesn't do anything, much like the ranger's hawk, just follows you around.

I have a Ranger with one of the Hawk pets and though i have only seen it once, my pet hawk did fight a gnoll once in Thundering Steepes. not sure the how or the why of it but i was haveing to run as i usaly do since i normaly try things i shouldnt solo and got far ahead. Noticed the hawk was missing checked and the pet bar was still up and he was getting hit, ran back and he was fighting the gnoll, put him on pacify he quit fighting and followed me and hes never fought since when ive had him out. so glitch or not i have seen one fight 8)

When my Acolyte gets hit by an AOE type nuke she'll go into fighting stance and go after the offending MoB. She doesn't actually hit back, but she looks like she's fist fighting. The MoB's won't actually target her either, presumably because she doesn't generate any hate.

I haven't had to run in that situation, so I don't know if she would stick around to fight on after my departure. That might actually be useful if running was required :)

One thing I can say is the fun spell pets have a ton of hit points.

Lol i have seen that before where the ranger pet fights like once a lifetime...
anyways the only real pet classes that get nifty strong pets are conj and necro.

Illusionist get stronger then average pets as well, though I am not sure about coercers. Illusionists get a mirror image type(personae) pet that will hang around and attack what you do. Though not as strong as necs/conj it does help early on.

We once had someone in our gulid that had a cute little kitty that followed him around. That's all the kitty did though. How did he get the kitty? Was it from a quest?

Bitterillusions, this was good question and one I have been meaning to ask. Thanks for asking.

I loved the little passive pets from WoW as well. :) If EQ2 has some that follow you around, I am sold! :P

Don't know of a kitty pet but there are a bunch of little ones you can take out in the world!

The mushroom came from the splitpaw adventure pack - complete the pit champion solo instance and part of the reward is a pet mushroom. (I named mine "DirectTV" cause he looks like a tiny dish!

There is also a tiny beholder pet that was the reward for one of the early T7 collection quests.

One of my guildies has a tiny orc that he received as a reward from a GM quest one night.

and, I just got another new pet but I can't remember what it is atm... (I'll edit this after I get home and log on).
