Player Housing?Follow

#1 Oct 17 2006 at 4:09 AM Rating: Good
Is there a link somewhere with a good explaination of how player housing works? I'm still on the starter island (just hit level 8), so clearly it isn't a real issue yet, but I'm very interested in how the whole thing works so I can plan ahead. (I like planning ahead.)

Other posts I have read make it sound like you start with some sort of default house and can upgrade later. Do all upgrades require guild membership? What happens to your things when you buy a new house? Do they automatically move? What is the advantage to having a new and bigger house, or is it just for status? Where are these houses, especially the starter house it sounds like I should have when I get to the mainland?

Thank you for the information.

Correct. Your first home will be an Inn room in your starting village. It's free to purchase and costs 5 silver a week in upkeep. You can upgrade to 2, 3 or 5 room housing. Bigger housing gives you more slots for selling and storage.

No, but the purchase price and maintenance cost you more coin. If you're in a guild you pay roughly half the coin cost of the identical non-guild house, plus status (which you get for doing writs, quests and various other tasks). Same deal with maintenance. You can buy or quest for status cost reducing housing items.

No. I'm pretty sure you have to empty your house before you relinquish it or you lose everything in it. There's a handy button that lets you pick up eveything in your house (as much as you have inventory slots for, at least). It's still a PITA getting 100's of items out of house 1 and stored somewhere like your bank and your person then get them to house 2 :P. I've heard conflicting information on whether your storage vault boxes transfer automatically. If someone knows, please enlighten us :) If they do things would be somewhat easier.

Bigger housing gives you more slots for broker selling and storage. You can also display more stuff in them, 100 items per room.

Look for the Inn in your starter village, with the bed icon, and hail the housing NPC. The bigger houses are in the main city zones.

I recently updated from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom and removed everything cept for the vendor bags which i didnt even think about moving they did transfer to the new home. So in theory if you got the space put your inventory in there for vendoring just dont sell it and it should transfer over for easy moving

Do you mean the containers you put in slots on the broker?

Were they just regular containers or the newer sales containers (Weapon Rack, Scroll Stand, Salesman's Crate, etc.)? Did you have them placed 'physically' in your house?

I was actually wondering about the storage slots in the house vault that you access by right clicking your door.

I believe he meant the boxes you put in your house vault. (where you used to keep your consignment goods)

If it were the salesman's crates, (or weapon racks or whatever) they would have to be collected and moved but the house vault is tied to your bank and not to your home (oddly enough)

I think you have to be in a guild in order to purchase a 5-room house. I also think the guild has to be at least level 30.

If you are a quest hog (and I certainly am) you will soon fill up a 1-room house with books and mementos. And that doesn't eveen begin to cover the nifty items you can purchase or quest for during the world events.

I now play swap-o-rama with three of my characters because they have filled up their rooms. Two of them are still in 1-room inns so it's just a matter of time to move them into a 2-room inn. Unfortunately for my third character it won't be so easy. She is one of my mains (I 2-box so I do everything in 2's) and is in a 3-room inn. I looked into moving her into a 5-room house but found nothing that couldn't be purchased for anyone in a guild less than 30. Our guld is slowly approaching lvel 22 and has a very small membership. I doubt that in my life time I will ever see it reach 30.

Also keep in mind if you have more than one character who has placed items in the house you will need that character to remove them. I once made the mistake of deleting a character who had put things in the house. I was not allowed to collect the items and had to abandon them. I think the normal items are ok to pick up but the special items are the problem makers.

You can also get repeats in you room. I have no idea how the game allows this to happen but it does. My son must have at least 3 copies of the skeleton Lore and Legend book in his room. When he is ready to move he will discover that he will only be able to collect one of those books. Because it is a lore item he can only have one on his person or in his bank. I have no idea, like I said, how he manages to get repeats in the room. I suppose it has something to do with allowing friends to share one room.

Now if I am incorrect on anything I have said please correct me. And if anyone knows of anyway I can get into a 5-room house, otherwise known as a guild hall, without being in a lvl 30 guild, please tell me.

Here are a couple of good sights on housing and the stuff you can stuff them with:

And just because I am a major geek here is the starting link to my homes (yes, I know the pictures are a little too red):

I had a few of those when I moved. Sometimes you aquire a book that starts a quest which you can immediately place in your house. Then when you complete the quest another one pops up in your inventory. The old Qeynos City newbie quest used to pop a new book in your inventory every time you completed a step and you would end up with 3 or 4 of them.
