So I just read the whole book about Everquest 2 pretty much. One thing confuses me though. I read the whole thing about PVP, and it seems really fun, about the whole honor killing thing. And the rules seems good, like you can't attack anyone below or above 8 levels of you.
Anyway, my real life buddy doesn't want to do a PVP server. So my question is this: does the honor kill system (how you can get rewards from it and stuff) still exist on non-pvp servers? Like is there a way like in SWG where you can turn on a PVP flag and attack or be attacked by anyone else who has a PVP flag on? Or does the honor kill system just not work at all on a non PVP server??

In a word, No. The only way to kill other players is on a PvP server.
On a PvE server you can duel other players (with their consent) and you can even wager on the outcome, but if you just want to put the smackdown on the bad guys -whenever you happen to see them, you'll need to commit to the dark side.
But since you're a new player, my recommendation would be to play PvE until you have a handle on the mechanics of the game. I see little sense in making things harder on yourself by getting ganked by roving bands of 14 year olds while you're still trying to learn the difference between an HO and an HQ!
