Hello
I will be coming over from FFXI, and have just 1 question that I didnt find in the Faq's. Is the movement control, controlled by the mouse and keyboard only or can I use a game pad controller and or joystick?

Thanks

I've been using a nostromo N52 gamepad for as long as I've been playing EQ2. Don't know why you'd want to limit yourself with a joystick but w/e.

The nostromo (N52 & the smaller N50) pads come with software to set up the device and link it to whatever games you play. Don't know what device you have but it should have it's own software. In my case, I chose which buttons I wanted to contol which functions and linked to the EQ2.exe file and I was off and running. Also got my gf an N52 and hers works the same way mine does.

Would he have an EQ2.exe file if he was just playing the trial? I'm not sure, but it might be listed under a different file name.

I think he's talking about a gamepad like the ones attached to an XBox or Playstation. I also think you're out of luck. FFXI (for example) was developed from the ground up to work on PS2 with a gamepad, EQ2 is not available on any console and was made strictly for the PC. I'm pretty sure there is no support for gamepads in EQ2.

Once you get into the game you're not going to want to use one anyway. Just off the top of my head there is a lot of mouse clicking required: NPC Dialog trees, item action options, scrollbars, setting prices, checkbox options (e.g. not for sale), quantity sliders, pet commands, etc, etc, etc. Not to mention all the things you need to right click to do. There is no auto-targetting, no fixed target reticule for pointing (only a movable mouse cursor) and way too many key press options to cover with a gamepad unless someone came out with one that has 100 buttons. IMHO if you found a way to make a gamepad work you would be gimping yourself if you use it.

Yes that is the type Im using it's the same gamepad I use for FFXI which I have on PC. So is there another kind of gamepad? what kind is oldbluedragon talking about? actually I dont call them gamepads I usually call them hand controllers since I hold it in my hand and controll the game with it.

Well thanks for everyone's info

OBD is talking about one of those add-on keyboard extensions that sit on your desk next to the main keyboard and have game-specific keys set up in a more ergonomic way. They're also programmable such that you can assign whatever key or combination of keys or macros to any key on the add-on.

I'd bet money that even with his Nostromo OBD still makes extensive use of his mouse.

Roger that!

What the Nostromo does is to let me put all the "common" clicks like auto attack, HO start continue & complete commands, combat arts and heals plus things like inventory & persona screens all in one convenient location, right at my fingertips. This saves valuable time when you're in a crunch situation (like a full group run through a dungeon filled with yellow mobs).
